Ok guys...you've all convinced to not trust anyone other than myself to work on my truck unless absolutely necessary. I've been changing the oil myself and saving a ton of money buying synthetic oil at Walmart etc.

I just realized that I need to change the fluids in front and rear differentials and the transfer case. Truck is 9 months old, 48,000 miles and it's never been done.

The question is, do I need to change the front as often as the rear? I rarely use 4wd and am guessing I could do the rear every 30,000 as called for and then maybe just do the front every other time....

    Suggestions?

You'll likely get arguments on both sides.

Personally, I'd do both, but I'm kind of overkill / OCD on my maintenance in general.

Considering how cheap and easy it is, I would do them all at 30k. That little bit of maintenance can really do a lot in the long run.

I'm running Lucas synthetic and haven't had one complaint. Not to mention, my diff hadn't been changed in the 100k miles it's been on the road.

Holy crap I just read this - that's a lot of miles! You must be driving that thing non-stop!

I run Mobile 1 Synthetic in the front, rear and TC. I change them all at the same time so I don't have to worry about remembering when to do what. It really isn't that expensive in the long run. I have no abnormal noises from anywhere due to fluid selection.
