Typical around town stuff with stoplights and highway cruising 80 mph I am low 20's. Oddly enough stop and go traffic, where I keep my foot off the brake, average about 43 mph, and only come to a complete stop once or twice for 10 seconds or so is how I've got into the 30+ MPG. And yes, that is a seriously light foot on the accelerator and not much in the way of braking...

Vlaude, with tons of posts like the one below I don't have any faith in the onboard computer mileage calculations. Tank fill and miles driven on it are all I believe.

20+ around town and cruising interstate at 80? Not a chance. You need to make sure you don't have UK miles set in the settings. These trucks get well below 20mpg at 80.

I will check Imperial this evening as I head out... Not sure but that is still only a difference of just over 5 1/2% Regardless, its what my comp is showing. I'm guestimating on the 80 mph, high teens might be closer. Just describing my driving habits, probably my commuting brings up the average. Just reporting, don't shoot the messenger!

The only time I am getting in the teens is towing, running out back roads, and running hills out east of here. Most of my running is commuting though so it brings up the average when plugging in other running. As shown last tank mostly commuting was 26.1 MPG. If imperial that is still probably 24.6 +/- and excellent for a 4dr 4WD vehicle.

I laugh at all the people on the thread who drive 15 miles DOWNHILL then take a pic of their gauge cluster showing 27 mpg. Should be a 200 mile minimum to post on this page. I can get 26 MPG in my thirsty gen 2 on the drive home from mountain biking (which goes down a mountain 27 miles).

I documented the following many moons ago. Ended up being a 490 mile tank w/ 18.860G fill(25.98mpg).

    http://imgur.com/a/yC7xh

I have since bested that with 332 miles and a 12.262G fill (27.08mpg) with a cap and a different wheel/tire combo.

All fills to the first click.

A lift is in my future, need to get the MPG down where it should be. :D

I made a 216 mile drive north this past weekend and averaged around 18.7mpg. I would say it was 70% hwy (at 72-75mph) and 30% city (45-55mph) with the a/c on almost the entire time and several hills, although not excessive. Same trip home was around 20mpg, same amount of city/hwy and again with the a/c on but slower speeds on the hwy due to traffic.

Vehicle: 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 (driving in 2WD). Stock suspension, larger A/T tires.

New truck and only my second fill up and first I actually calculated. Just over 400 miles total including back and forth to work a few times plus a trip to the mountains and back including over Trail Ridge Road. Begin and end elevation was the same (home) so reflects both the uphill and downhill parts. Average = 22.44 mpg as calculated at fill up.

Thats the proper way to document mileage. Props.
Anyone claiming 35 mpg is saying they get 738 miles out of a full tank. I'd love to see that documented properly.

that cannot be right? 260 miles converted to kilometers doesnt equal out to 650km (full tank for me)

That's ~ 14mpg if he fills when the light comes on.

Or maybe ... maybe those posters just do not (or cannot) think deeply enough to offer meaningful information.

Even comparing my best two tanks is somewhat flawed given the difference of mileage, but the transparency is there for all to see and judge for themselves.

Somebody posting a big number that is devoid of context, while thinking to themselves "Yeah bro, my Off-road beats your Sport skewp bullshit." likely doesn't realize how many facepalms they will be responsible for.

    Costs are in CAD $. Gas right now is about $1.09 CAD $/L = $4.12 CAD/US Gal = $3.13 US $/US Gal.

I've taken to posting fill up trip meter end miles pics and the gas pump pic due to the irritation of the ones posting ridiculous dash MPG pics. I've said it before and I'll repeat it again. Can you imaging the outrage if Toyota listed the mileage of the Tacoma as 36MPG on the window sticker with and asterisk beside it?

At the bottom of the window sticker in tiny letters "Going down hill in top gear only"

Not a 3rd Gen but I've achieved 751 on a tank, tracked on an Excel spreadsheet and cleanmpg.com.

I'm pretty sure I could get into the 28-29 mpg range with a 6 speed 3.5L.

    Date Odometer gas mpg miles
    4/19/2008 28816 18.503 32.4 599
    5/30/2008 29529 19.18 37.2 713
    6/25/2008 30213 18.755 36.5 684
    8/6/2008 30964 20.401 36.8 751
    9/6/2008 31645 18.08 37.7 681
    10/1/2008 32373 20.54 35.4 728

Cleanmpg.com somehow lost their database of information but here's a graph of every tank before they lost it.

I average between 20.5 and 21.5 all kinds of driving, hwy, town, off road, sport model, stock wheels and tires, heavy foot:)
I have been as low as 15mpg when my truck was below 5k, then gradually started to climb the more miles I put on it. Sitting at
26k at the moment. So far so good. I'm sure when I upgrade my wheels and tires it might go down a bit.

These results are a little higher than I would expect; but, not by much (except 80mph = 17-18mpg). I routinely get 27-28 mpg on some trips that are less than ideal (lights, traffic, construction, A/C, cold start). At a steady level 45mph you can get ~33mpg (DC OR 4x4). Perhaps you can get better with over-pressurized tires or a non-steady 'pulse and glide' type of driving (if you don't get shot).

With regards to the computer mpg... on my last four tanks (all >24mpg and 500 miles) the computer and the calculator differed by less than 1%. ( :gossip: I filled the tank completely... shhh, don't tell anyone.)

Everyone says drive like there is an egg on the accelerator... that's backwards... you should put the egg on the brake. The less you brake the less you will have to accelerate again. As soon as you see the light turn yellow take your foot off the gas. One reason my mileage isn't significantly higher is that most of my miles are in a 'master-planned' community with curvy roads and lots of trees (The Woodlands) so I can't see most lights until I'm right up on them... and I can't cue off the drivers in front of me because they are accelerating towards a red light.

I'll have my truck out to Colorado at some point, and I'm curious to see how much the altitude affects my results.

Potentially 2-3 mpg. I can typically get 32+ driving 60 at altitude, but more like 28 mpg when I drove around Memphis same 60 mph.
