I’ve got a leftover Accusump pre-oiler system (www.cantonracingproducts.com) from another truck and am wondering if anyone has had any experience installing one on a 3rd Gen V6 engine? Mainly, where did you tap in to the oil gallery/line?
FYI. I’ve got a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road with the Atkinson engine

Sorry tall big Dave, I think you are the first with this suggested mod.
First question is why. Several versions of this engine have been running for years with no issues.
Second question is design. Do you feel that the engineers at Toyota did not think making sure the engine had oil in all situations?
Third question is viscosity. The 0W-20 synthetic by design addresses many of the issues (windage for example) that a pre oiler could give.
Maybe you just don't want to let it sit on the shelf? Toyota sells 25K of these things a month. Nobody is reporting any issues with the engine really.

Coming from both the lubrication and NASCAR fields, I applaud your idea as it "could" help prolong the life of any internal combustion engine by "helping" to mitigate dry starts, but I have to agree with the others that Toyota, like the other manufactures, factor in consumer driving habits and their lack of common sense regarding maintenance and care for their vehicles. Great thought though. Keep 'em coming!

Probably not worth the hassle, as others have eluded to. On a similar note though, I do fill the filter housing with fresh oil when doing oil changes.

As for engineers getting everything perfect... well, they are compromised by the bean counters. Oh and, do software engineers count? LOL
    Have fun with your truck!

Ran one on a 4.3 SS S-10. Totaled it at 3,000 miles so never saw the long term benefit. I applaud your effort and say go for it. You might be able to tie into the oil cooler. Wait. Do we still have an oil cooler? My 09 had it right under the inverted filter.

I've got one on my Pontiac 455. Easier to do with a remote filter setup.

Yup, of course the bean counters don’t want the engineers to include a system to help prevent start up wear..........engines would last too long.
I’ve used Accusumps in the past and they’ve worked flawlessly so i’ll stick my head underneath and post what I end up doing.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
PS. Software engineers have never designed an V6 engine with a starter in the middle under the center intake so they’re ok in my book.

Computer programmers are not engineers. That is all.

Oh, and engine is fine, don't mess with it.

    Baxter performance.
They make adapters for making the 3.5 go from paper cartridges to spin on filters and remote relocation of filter adapters.
From what the guy said to me the ten years of filter housing was a cost savings move and did not keep the system pressurized due to no check valve. They're now going back to spin on in 4th Gen Tacoma. However in my opinion the pre oiler would be a great asset. Even with check valves the manufacturing process of making filters is iffy and having worked in manufacturing and seeing what gets passed and what decisions get made as far as components and materials to save money and meet deadlines for shipping to keept their contracts... I'd go for the pre oiler. Then you absolutely know it's getting oil pre start up. Plus the fact that newer engines run hotter than the old school stuff- which the extra heat destroys oil to begin with. 0-20w is water thin also to begin with. 4.0 liter inverted filters out of every 10 changes 2 where full of oil and they were dealer bought filters. So faith in the product being up to spec will lose to saving money every time. I'd say do it. Unless it voids the warranty

2 seconds maybe tops? 3 previous Tacoma's all in excess of 300,000 miles. Next time you have the oil filer off have a look at the bottom of the filter it is by design made to hold oil in it.

Probably would help to prevent oil starvation under certain conditions encountered while off roading. Accu-sumps were designed to hold a small amount of pressurized oil to prevent engine damage if oil pickup became uncovered, a "poor man's dry sump".Too bad Toyota engineers didn't include this in the off road packages, some guys on steep hills might have not blown up their 3.5's like I read about on here.
