PRERUNNER??

I know they do make a 3rd gen TRD OR that's only rwd with a rear locker. Though it's not called a Pre Runner. But it's basically the exact same thing

 

yeah Toyota dropped the 'Prerunner' label after 2015 when they came out with the 3rd gen

 

I kinda miss my 02 Prerunner. No locker or 4wd, but still remarkably capable.

 

A lot of people around here don’t like 2wd trucks so they don’t get bought

 

Nobody mentioned here what Prerunner is missing besides front wheel power. Because it does not have transfer case, it does not have "low" gear. You can have e-locker on the rear, but you may lack of torque to get out of trouble.

I confirmed that my model is a DLX but it didn't come with cruise control, no rear locker or 4x4. I was able to add the cruise control and rear locker w/ wiring from....can't remember but I tried the oem route and for some reason it wouldn't lock even though I tested it.

 

I thought you were asking for proof that pre runner had a rear locker lol

I once worked with a lady who mistakenly financed a used Prerunner Tacoma from the dealer. When I asked her why she went with a prerunner instead of the 4x4 she said "It is a 4x4!". Ummm hate to break this to you...That was an awkward conversation. A month later she traded it in for a Subaru. Lol

I wonder how many people have mistakenly done that...

 

Can any of you actual prerunner guys run your VIN on toydiy.com and see if it shows that you have a prerunner?

Does it sate "Prerunner"? No. It has it on the truck itself tho.

 

My position is that not ALL Prerunners have an elocker.

 

I believe the TRD's had the rear lockers, that is what I've seen so far after looking at 4 of them. Granted people can get the vinyl anywhere though...

 

Oh, Yea I doubt all of them have the e locker. Any non Trd model won’t have it.

However I wonder if there are 4cyl Trd models that don’t have the locker.
It would make sense Toyota would only put an elocker in the larger engine to handle the loads n such

 

There were 1st gen 4cyl TRD trucks that came with the TRD suspension and cosmetic upgrades but no elocker...they were pretty rare back then and even rarer to find nowadays.

To my knowledge though there are no 4cyl TRD 2nd/3rd gens...TRD packages were only available on 6cyl after 1st gens.

 

I like my 02 DC Pre Runner with a TRD supercharged 4cyl that has only 70k original miles !!!!!!
