This sucks to read. Softopper was great to deal with in the past. Hopefully it is just an unusual wait for you guys and they get back on their game.

My brother in law has had an absolute nightmare of a time returning his softopper. He liked mine so much he ordered one for his new 2500HD Chevy, but ultimately decided that it wasn't for him. Had it on for a few days, took everything off and cleaned it, repackaged it, and is just trying to send it back and get a refund. Says he's been emailing/calling several times a week since the beginning of May and gets crickets every time.

Super disappointing, I love my softopper and had no issues getting it after I ordered at the end of 2020. I would absolutely add the negative caveat of dealing with their customer service if I recommend one to anybody nowadays. If they can't handle a simple return, I can't imagine dealing with them on any other issues.

Give them a call. The phone started ringing right before the recording goes “leave a message for…”. With my early June order, I was told they’re getting more 6 foot black toppers August 2nd. When I called them out on their customer service, i was told “we don’t have a system to send automatic updates”….. so yeah… I’m sure it’ll be a great product, but without the free Tacoma world advertising, I doubt I would have given them this much of a chance.

Softopper is far superior in its construction and material though. A lot of problems with Bestop and their CS too.

I called and talked to Softopper yesterday. The lady I talked to, was very helpful. The tracking number I received was a place holder, but FedEx sends an email anyways.. As it turned out, my topper was packaged up and ready for pick-up. I received a new tracking number and the package is on it's way to the package shipping location I use in Washington State. Should be able to go pick it up on Thursday.

I never understood the soft topper. It’s like a $1k tarp, that isn’t lockable.

    1. $829 msrp+tax/shipping and it’s $1,021.50
    2. Its constructed of waterproof fabric (tarps are waterproof)
    3. You can’t securely lock it, and theft is an inherent risk.

yeah you’re right, I was way off :anonymous:

    Mine was $750 delivered.

That is a silly point one way or that other as it is well constructed and has been proven to last with minimal care. We had a true canvas topped convertible. It was much more work to maintain.

It's no different than a soft tonneau or open bed. Security is what you make of it.

For me it has done all that I needed of it and has exceeded my realistic expectations.

To be honest, a canopy in general never made sense to me either. After camping last year and trying to cover all my gear with a tarp, a good one... not water proof by the way even when you pay good money... I realize a canopy would be a way nicer option.

Now where do I store my canopy when not in use.. my single car garage full of wood working and mechanical tools? Nope, no room there.. in my small backyard where my daughter likes to play... nope, no room there... the softopper gives me everything I need, a way to haul my gear with better water protection, and it folds up small to allow storage when not in use.

Theft is an issue regardless if I have a tonneau cover, a fabric canopy or a solid canopy. I won't be storing anything in the bed of the truck when not in use... had someone steal my cargo netting with the tonneau closed and tailgate locked. Still opened it up and took stuff... the back flap of the canopy will remain clearly unzipped to deter vandalism to access...

Im in no way trying to convince you, that you don’t enjoy it and it works for you. I was merely stating my opinion and backing up that opinion with three facts that I stated. Again, I’m simply posting in a “problems with softtopper” thread, my opinion. Ymmv

when all else fails, insert personal attacks. You softopper mafia are a sensitive bunch aren’t you? Even to the point where you completely ignore facts. “They’re not $1,000, it’s not just a tarp”….blah blah

Maybe start your own club of softoppers? You can all meet at in n out burger and talk about how you didn’t pay $1k, and how your gear stays secure while you go inside wallmart on your camping trips.

I'll throw that one right back. You jump in a thread purely to stir up some shit. Then act all high and mighty when someone flings shit right back.

No one cares that you don't like it. Your "facts" aren't even that enlightening. We all know it's a fucking tarp. That's why we bought it.

you do you bro…this is a problems with softopper thread bro, not a “softoppers are superior to anything, change my mind” thread. I’m glad you’re speaking on behalf of everyone who owns one, they’re lucky to have you. Again, nothing I stated was conjecture, and I never attacked anyone personally. I’m glad you enjoy your $1,021.50 tarp

Softopper has definitely gone down hill since the Bestop buyout. I ordered a replacement rear panel on April 14, didn't receive it until July 18. Numerous emails and voicemail messages went unanswered. I was eventually able to make contact with someone through Facebook messenger, then got ghosted. I openly complained on their Facebook page a couple of times. I eventually got through to a live human by phone, seemed to have things resolved but then nothing happened and there was no promised call back. Got through to a human a second time a week later, no promised call back, no promised email with tracking info but did finally get the order a week later. I really love my Softopper but the company seems to be circling the drain. The situation seems fishy to me. Bestop buys out a competitor with a superior product, competitor quickly goes downhill.

Careful, you’re not allowed to bash softoppers in a “problems with softopper thread”
