puzzled... squeak

ok, so i started up the truck this morning.. there was no squeak, i drove to school and there was a squeaking coming from the belts. I figured whatever. I drove to the firehouse and the squeaking was there. I hung out at the firehouse for a bout 2hrs enough time to let the engine cool down. I started the truck back up and the squeak was gone. Drove to work, and the squeak came back once the truck reached normal operating temp....
Could it be that i need new belts? or that the tention on the belts is to loose?

Is the squeak there when you are idling? or just when you are moving? I have a squeak that sounds like a belt, but it's there only when I'm moving and it goes away when I push in the clutch. I think it's the throw out bearing. If your belt is squeaking at idle, pour some water on it and see if it temporarily goes away. If it does, a new belt will usually cure the noise. Make sure you don't get water in the alternator, just use enough to wet the belt.

 

the squeak is at idle... if i push the clutch its still there.. its kind of annoying if i wet the belts the squeak is still there tried it today

 

It's your catalytic converter.

I had the same thing happen. It would tick/squeak at idle.

Took it into the dealership and it was covered under a TSB.
