Radar Detector HELP!

Im trying to hardwire my Valentine V1 to my temperature gauge in my 06, I read that the thicker light green wire was hot(+) and the purple with the white stripe was ground(-). I tried quick splicing but it wont turn the radar on. No fuses are blown and the inline fuse on the hardwire kit is still good. Need help.

Those vampire wire taps do not always work. You need to use a test light or a volt/ohm meter ans see if you have power coming out of your spliced wires. If you have power at the connector, it should work Good luck

 

Agree with this, sometimes you have to use a little extra force to close them so the internal blade can close, the snap or pop doesn't always do the trick.

 

Let us know what the problem was when you figure it out. I want to do this same thing with my Beltronics dectector.

 

I opened up the factory wires just enough to have a full connection without the splices and it still won't work, I think I'm going to run it down to another set of wires

 

You may want to keep your positive wire hooked up like you have it and take your ground wire and ground it to the body of the Taco and see if it works. You may have power, but I think you have a ground wire problem. I would use a test light or a volt/ohm meter and see if you have power going to the power wire or if you may have blown a fuse accidently while hooking your wires up. Good luck.

 

He's on to something. I just added a new switch to my truck while replacing my stock fog light switch and i grounded my green wire and shorted out my dimmer switch almost cost me 134 for the switch and 900 for the dash lights. be sure not to cross the wrong wires

 

Well i would try to keep splicing and then hook the temp gauge back up and it still works fine so that fuse isnt blown. The inline fuse for the hardwire kit is still fine, i dont have a volt meter so im going to go to the local audio shop and have the install guys look at it and test it out. They are good buddies so I will figure it out by monday afternoon. I'll keep let you guys know what the problem was. thanks for the input!

 

So its the light green wire (+) and white wire with the black line (-), also those who have a problem with the radar sticking to the dots, if you set the detector on top of the mirror and slide it to the window, it will stick to the dots because the mirror takes most of the weight off of them, havent had it drop once. hope this helps

The real question is why have a detector at all? If it goes off, the cop already has your speed (which he visually estimated) on screen. By the time you hit your brakes, it's too late. And when he walks up to your window and sees it on the windshield, what do you think that does to your chances of getting a ticket?

The rare occasion where it DOES help you slow down before the cop sees you speeding is probably one where you weren't in danger of being singled out anyway.

 

I've used one for years. There are two reasons for a detector:

You pick up the signal when he's clocking drivers ahead of you so you can slow down.

You learn where the speed traps are. They tend to use the same locations over and over.

 

Radar is so out dated. I would feel confident in the estimate of about 90% of law enforcement now uses Laser. Laser is instant and if utilized well, is mostly undetectable by most radar detectors. I know they have the capability, just saying that the laser operator can utilize the device in a way as to detect a vehicular speed, without setting off the radar detector of another operator/ vehicle.

 

Not true, every CHP I've seen in So Cal has their radar constantly running 90% of the time so the valentine having amazing range picks them up well before they are close or already got you. I've had it for a couple months and I've had 1 hit by lidar. Cops rarely use it. Smart cops will turn their radars on and off to not be picked up by detectors or rarely use lidar. I bought it for 200 and can turn it around for 300 if I really wanted to so my purchase isn't a waste, if you drive the freeways in so cal you would want one to
