I own a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Access truck that is only 10 months old. The truck only has 7000 miles on it and since day one I just never liked the sound in this Taco.

Today I decided to take it to a local company that installs aftermarket systems just to see if they could install anything that could make this better. The man comes out to my truck and turns on the radio. He checks the right speaker and no sound from door panel or top of right dash.

I leave and take it to the local dealer and they check it out and tell me that the wires were never connected. He said it would need a new wiring harness because the wires were not long enough to reach the speakers.

He then tells me in order to repair the system the truck will need a new wiring harness in it and he could not tell me how long this might take.

I find this hard to believe that a truck came off the line and nobody ever checked to see if the right speakers on this truck were working. Am I the only Taco owner this has ever happened to ?

I buy Toyota because of their track record and yet this happens. I don't like the idea of a truck this new having someone remove all these parts to replace a speaker harness.

The Bluetooth on this system will sometimes work and sometimes not when playing music off my phone. It is not my phone because it works perfect playing music on a system I installed in my Nissan Xterra. Not sure how to explain to them about this so looking for suggestions from someone :) Thanks for any tips on what I should do. Tom

Man I've never heard of the wiring harness issue, that sucks. As for the Bluetooth do you have the entune app on your phone and is it set up and connected to your truck? The truck will get an update available on the display when it is and Bluetooth connection works much better

Do you need to know, or care?
I've never heard of this happening but there is a first for everything, I would take it back to the dealer.

    Warranty is free.

Sorry then man, I don't know another way to fix the Bluetooth. If you're close to Birmingham check out Hoover Toyota and see if they will help you, great people there. I've never had an issue with them

Haha if you do go with a Trd, the options are nice. Honestly I've done so many things to my truck I don't think I have a warranty left on 50% of my stuff. If you need a new harness anyways then you could probably just skip the dealership and disconnect the battery, then you could cut the wires and get the same gauge wire and add some more in the middle with solder/heat shrink. I would definitely take it to Hoover toyota first though, trustworthy people there. They installed my lift and tires, I was having some rubbing issues and I brought it back and they fixed it for me and hammered in my pinch welds free of charge. If you really do need something done they'll tell you, but if you need that harness replaced anyways I don't see why you shouldn't give it a shot yourself (as long as your warranty doesn't cover all of the work to be done, then you're wasting time).

Funny you mention lake Martin, I'm moving to Auburn for school in 3 weeks.

Thanks haha, it's funny I was a die hard Alabama fan for the last 10 years. I even went to the 2015 national championship in pheonix, but I went and checked out the engineering schools on a personal tour at both colleges and Auburn blew Alabama out of the water. I love Alabama football, but not as much as I love a good education in my field of choice. Also, Alabama was too big for my liking. I felt clostraphobic the entire time I was there due to the amount of people there.

X2 on dealer return. Sounds like a warranty issue.

All you need is wire, heat shrink, and solder. Worst case scenario go to the dealer

The problem is now solved. I traded this truck for a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport with the V-6. White with the grey interior. I love this truck and the way it handles. The power of the 3.5 is amazing. I got the towing package but no 4x4. I have no reason to own a truck with this option. I wanted the best sound system but had to settle for the standard Entune ( 3 months Sirius XM Satellite Radio ) with Navigation So far it is great. I would like more base in the sound and in the future I may look to add some upgrades to this system. As Chrisrocks 300 suggested I traded at Hoover Toyota in Bham, Al. Best dealer in my opinion ever. Thanks Chris for the tip. Old man rides in style :) Tom
