Radio Upgrade Issues

Replacing the radio/head unit in my 2007 tacoma. I wired everything up and it will not turn on when i turn on the vehicle.

On the original radio, there are 4 plug ins, only the 3 in the photo were plugged in originally. but the third plug in(red arrow in photo) does not accept my wiring harness. I unplugged the new radio and connected everything back to the old one to test, and no power to the old radio... connections all the same.

The 2 connectors on the left side (green arrows) fit my wiring harness.

Using a wiring harness from my old 2002 toyota echo. what is the third connector for? 2002 echo harness compatible?

 

clock and hazard lights work.

 

SOLVED. radio fuse was shot. should have probably disconnected the battery first

 

Yeah, the “wrap and tape” method is extremely unreliable. great way to blow fuses and short out speakers which can damage the radio.
Go back over the harness with 18-22ga butt connectors or crimp caps so it will hold up

Electrical tape just gets so sticky and loose and gross and messy when stuck in a dash all summer. Without fail, the first few hot weeks of every year, I have a handful of people show up because their aftermarket radio quit working, and I pull it out of the dash and half the wires have fallen apart and shouted out because the tape fell off.

You can also throw a zip tie on each piece of tape to keep it from unraveling when it gets hot, but crimping or soldering is definitely the way to go! But I know patience gets the best of us and I can’t say I haven’t made due with tape before lol
