Not sure if this has been discussed but wanted to give some insight. One of the healthy problems of doing the kicker speaker and key amp upgrade is the rattling that appears when the speakers come alive. I did some kilmat on the outer and inside and outside of the inner skin, put some boom mat on the inside of the plastic panel, etc. and it made a noticeable difference. The doors also shut like a beast now!

I was still dealing with some rattling and it really started back up when I installed the Kicker Key the other day. I was definitely not chasing windmills because when the bass went boom the sound went bzzzzzz. I finally found the culprits and wanted to post some pics of the mods I did to fix it. Problem solved!

Felt on bottom and sides of door command switch and window seal on plastic cover that covers up an access screw for the plastic door cover. 30C7EE7C-6191-4530-9416-48BE01835A34.jpg53198819-0A68-44D0-A493-7184C9812AD1.jpg

I put window seal foam on that piece and a bunch of felt tape on the window and lock control panel. Pick a song that you know will cause some rattles and start putting pressure on the panels different parts with a knee, arm, or fist. Once you start finding the spots you can start to attack them.

I also have Kilmat on the metal door skin on its 3 contact points. That would be the outermost metal skin closest to the outside of the truck including round brace bar, inside the metal skin, and lastly on the metal skin that is closest to the cabin (what you see when you pull the door panel off). I also put strips of boom mat on different parts of the inside of the plastic panel. The doors are like a tank now.

When you take the plastic panel off to expose the vapor barrier, speaker, wires,
cables, etc. you will see that the metal door is naturally two parts (window sits between them). There are three access points to the area between the two parts. Two can be found once you take the plastic vapor barrier off (can be put back on). They are greenish Grey foam covers. One large one and a smaller one that sits above the large one.

The third access point can be obtained by removing the bolts that hold the speaker in the door. You’ll then be able to reach in and touch the outermost skin of the door that is closest to the outside and also the inside of the metal skin or frame that is closest to the cabin. You will also see a roundish brace that is attached to the outer skin.

I put Kilmat on all three surfaces of the door to deaden it. It’s probably overkill but my doors shut with a resounding thunk now.
