also be easy with the rattle bag this time of year....if you do rattle, just some light sparring might spark a bit of curiousity. And short sequences will be sufficient. Also any does in the area will likely go the other way if they hear any buck activity.

Personally in my area I would only use buck calls during this time of year if I could actually see the buck, then call quietly to him.

Good luck and keep up the enthusiasm.....hope you get a good 'en!:D

Well, its officially over:pout:pulled all the tree stands today except for the buddy stand. Gotta catch the kids on a Sat to help and have fun pulling the last stand.

Not the most productive year deer hunting due to the new job having my number. But it was still enjoyable every time I did get to go.

On the up side, getting a little too late here in Southern Indiana to make enough ice to fish, but I do smell some 'fowl' weather around the corner;):D

Not a very productive year for me either. On the bright side I did manage to get my wife into hunting with me. She got the chance to aim down the barrel of her 20 gauge a couple times. I still reserve my bow hunting for "me" time. There is always next year.

Sad but true, but on the bright side long beard season is coming in March. :D

Harvest was poor all over here, yea some big ones taken but the over all count down. My year was OK, not the best of years. Four down, but no mounters. Can't win all the time, but then I don't consider myself a headhunter.

bone stock save for the block lift that came on it with the open country m/t.
I echo will's sentiments.....not a good season here either....At one spot I didn't see anything, and at another spot, I saw one doe the very first night I sat, but nothing after that. I will say that as much as I was fired up about the season, as it went on, my enthusiam waned.....oh well, I will get a deer when I get a deer.....until then, I may go hog hunting in a couple months. should be a good time....will keep you guys posted.

Got my buck last Tuesday. But while hunting yesterday, I seen a big 'un under my kids buddy stand. I hope they get a shot at him next Saturday when the firearms season opens.

Hey i live out here in hawaii, and here the only types of deer we have are axis, black buck and alittle bit of black tail, I've never heard of anyone rattling or calling in any of our deer, we usually spot and stalk. I should try rattling or something it might just work...aloha

it might work for you. Rattling will work best just before the breeding season when the bucks are deciding the pecking order and protecting their territory.

Opening day was for my daughter and I. We had a great time. Saw a coyote first thing and almost got a shot at him. Then seen a 'chubby' hoot owl a little later. Had a nice buck come through mid morning but too thick for my daughter to shoot. late morning a doe with her fawns came through. One of the yearlings came within 15 yards of our stand. My girl made a perfect shot right through the pumpstation!! After the shot, she's been trained to adhere to safety, and to get another shell in quick. Well I was so excited I couldn't think about anything but squeezing her. She said, "dad, what about another shell??" Frantically I said to her (three times that is) to give me the spent shell....She then said to me to calm down and quite shaking.....aaaaahahahaha. I was so excited. This will be the best trophy on my wall by far!!! My son and I hunted all day yesterday and didn't get him the same opportunity. We had a great time non the less. His first deer will be tied with hers as my favorite and most prized trophy for sure!

Well here she is, a trophy deer, with a trophy smile!!!:D

EDIT: ^Congrats to the little lady!

Oct. 10 was openin day of muzzleloader here in Blue Ridge. Shot a nice doe that day. 5 days later shot another smaller doe. Got a small spike a couple weeks ago...(It was my first buck)...

Never had a lot of time to hunt with work/school...but since I graduated college in May I finally had time this year.

New moon last night, nice front movin in today, so I went this mornin. I grunted in a little 3 point and was hopin there would be a big boy comin in behind him. No luck. Pre-Rut has started and it's started hard here. Got some pics on the trail cam of some nice bucks, big thick necks and black back glands. They seem to be a little early this year. Got a nice picture of an 8 point and a 4 point sparring. Headin back out to the same spot I sat this mornin. We'll see what happens!

Thanks man. No luck yesterday evenin. Had a doe walk under me, then gettin close to dark I grunted and somethin came runnin in. The wind shifted and it stopped. I grunted and used "The Can" and it slowly came on in a little. I ran out of daylight though. I started getting down out of the tree and heard it run off, it coudln't have been more than 50 yards away, but it was thick where I was and it was too dark. Oh well.

    getting there....
i reckon im getting a bit closer to adding meat to the freezer. since we have moved into the new house......there are deer all over the place here(in the city limits).....the past couple times in a week...when its been raining lightly in the afternoon, deer have been in my yard. last week...there were 6 nice does......walked property over from mine this week...there were 6 on the powerline.....2 awesome bucks, and 4 does. today........about to pull into my driveway....huge doe runs across yard to the woods. hopefully....i'll find some luck soon with one or 2 of them.

since its city limits...i can only bow hunt...which is just fine and dandy for me. jeez......just wish they'd allow baiting here.
