Joe, you might look at a trailer/RV store. There are add-on TPMS for RV's that transmit, and work for a 45 foot RV, so should work well for your trailer.

Yea I know this is definitely not for everyone.

But I'm OK with how it looks. At this point no matter what you put on just about any tires valve stem it's going to show a bit more because of course, your adding on to it.

What I was really looking for was one of these TPMS sets that each valve stem sensor would come in silver coverings rather than basic black.
But I went ahead with this particular one because (again) of the price.

Too bad they can't make the sensor's to look like a basic ordinary valve stem cover. I think that would be real cool. I guess the technology is just not there yet.

I think this is awesome. I had no idea these existed. This would probably work perfectly for me because the valve stems on my wheels go straight towards the center of the wheel instead of out and are protected by the spokes. They would probably be barely noticeable. I might try these out once I get home in a few weeks. Keep us updated.

Just a quick update on how the external TPMS that I installed a few days back (Aug. 28) is doing.

    So far so good.

I've noticed that there have been slight changes when displaying the tire pressure from it's nominal setting of 35 psi. This happens more in the morning time. I sort of suspected this was going to happen since now that we are approaching the Fall season. The change is not drastic at all, more like + 1 or 2 psi (36 or 37 psi) difference in increased pressure.
Though during driving time the tire pressure indicator will go back to nominal psi or maybe -1 degree difference ( 34 psi).

Again, I'm not saying that this particular TPMS is a perfect system but still it is doing exactly what I was looking for and so far I am happy with it.

Try resetting early am before sun gets on the tires. Since I don't have a compressor at home, I deliberately set tires about 3# high at friend's place, then the next morning reset all 4 tires to 33 and the Toyota TPMS to get an honest cold pressure. As you stated - you will see a negative reading as fall gets cooler.

This post is just another quick update on the external TPMS that I had added to my tires back in 2017 (please refer to post #19).

    So far so good!

    The system works great!

No problems at all and it will sound a small alarm if or when the tire pressure of any one of the 4 tires loses pressure from it's set tolerance (due to changes in the weather).

Plus (a big +) I like the fact that it shows exactly which tire(s) needs air pressure applied to it on the small screen instead of just that darn "low tire" symbol that shows up on your dash board (and then you've got to go figure out and check each tire in order to have that low tire symbol light turn off.

Anyway all you Tacoma drivers have a great day!

if techstream can read the values via obd, then shouldn't scan gauge able to display the values using the right code?

I googled and found this code list for toyota from scan gauge web site.

    Thats a good question!

Though since I don’t have a Scangauge installed in my 2008 Tacoma, i can’t say that it would or would not work.

But I’m sure if someone that does have one installed could probably look into whether it would work out or not?

Hopefully we’ll get an answer to this question soon.

Yep, but you do have to have a fairly recent firmware version in the Scangauge.

Now, if only Scangauge would offer alternate screens with a push of a button.

Alright everyone, this will definitely be my very last update on this external TPMS that I installed back in early Fall of 2017.

Believe it or not, definitely no problems whatsoever with them since I've installed them. I've been extremely happy with this TPMS!

Since the last other updates, so far just one time, this past Feb. in the early morning hours, I jumped in my Tacoma, started it up and immediately the external TPMS started to sound an alarm. Well of course because it was doing exactly what it was designed to do, notify the driver of a low tire pressure indication on one of the tires.

Well when the alarm sounded off it quickly drew my attention to the small screen indicator and low and behold the right rear indicator was flashing. This definitely drew a smile to my face and I just said...."YEA"!

Since I really wasn't pressed for time, I quickly got out and inspected the tire just to make sure that there were no nails sticking in the tire, see if it was low, etc. then took out my compact air pressure machine, applied the correct amount of pressure to the right rear tire, when I did this, the alarm quickly stopped and the TPMS indicator stopped flashing on the screen and instead was showing the proper air pressure indication for the right rear tire, just like the other three tire indicators.

Anyway, that's about it, system is working properly as it should without any problems.

All you Tacoma drivers have great day!

These have been around for years.......lots of ink on RV sites and great reviews. I have a similar set on my TT and they work as well Tex-Tac's reviews. I did replace my rubber valve stems with metal.
