I know ARB is the best locker on the market but the price is a challenge. I'm looking at a Detroit Locker not the trueTrac also the lockrite which is my last option. Is there any other locker that is good quality that won't break the bank?

Save your cash and get the ARB. Not that Detroit's, Spartan, etc aren't good, but it's better to have a selectable locker in your truck, especially if its daily driven. Plus driving in wet weather sucks and turning abilities become something you have to adjust to. In the end, its about 5-600$ more for an ARB, which is worth it. That's what I'm saving for.

ARB might be the better of the selectable lockers, but in no way is it better than a Detroit locker. Can't rip an air line off a Detroit locker, ARB's aren't as strong as the Detroit. Yes, you can turn off an ARB, but it's not the best locker.

If you daily drive your truck- ARB

If its only going to be used to wheel with- spartan

That simple. Don't put a lunch box locker in a daily driven truck. You will
Regret it. I did it then broke it, then got an ARB a month later.

i dont think i have heard of anyone blowing up an ARB in our axles.... its always been other things that pop first.

No, I don't think our trucks can break an ARB, axles and CV's yes. Nothing at all against ARB's, they are just not the best locker.

One note on a detroit vs ARB. ARB has two different lockers for our trucks. Geared under 3.93 and one geared over 3.93 or something close to that. Stock v6 gears are 3.73. If you think you want lower gears you need to replace gears before or during an ARB install. The Detroit uses the same locker for something like 3.53 to 5.29. For that reason I'm going with the Detroit. I can change gears any time I want. If I hate it I spent less than $500. I spent more than that removing the stock steps and replacing it with sliders.

That is only true for the front locker. Even then, if you only go for a 4.56 ratio, the Nitro gear is a thick cut version that fits the 3.93 down locker.

In other words, it will not be a problem unless 4.88 or lower gear ratio is wanted.

What most folks have said...ARB may not be the best locker, not arguing that point. For a daily driver (especially if you live where there is snow and ice) a selectable locker of some sort is far easier to live with than a full time locker or spool. When daily driven full time lockers can get real annoying and be unsafe at times. Not to mention the added wear on tires and driveline stuff. Even on my full trail rig I have arb's front and rear as I don't like dealing with the issues of a full time locker in the rocks (read Granite / Moab). In the front they mess with your steering, in the rear they make you go straight when you want to turn...get a selectable locker and have the best of both worlds.

Are you sure? That's not how I understood it, but I'm no expert. I hope you are right. I need to research that one. Thanks for the heads up.

    I'm positive about that info.

Except we were .02 off. It's 3.91 where the ratio break is. Lol

    ARB.

Detroit's ARE great. I LOVE them. I prefer a Detroit in the front to an ARB.

But, I did break one. My first Detroit in a Dana 35. Not sure how, but it failed. 4WP warrantied it through Detroit for a Dana 44 version. :D

ARBs are NOT weak. Not even close. Possibly stronger than a Detroit. But if you have an air line failure or a compressor failure then no locker for you. ARBs have been working for close to 30 years with minimal issues. A proper install and a quality air compressor that you DON'T abuse airing up EVERYBODY'S tires EVERY TIME you go out with your buddies who refuse to buy a compressor. At least without giving the compressor proper time to cool between rigs.
