Just noticed all this rust on the rear drums of my 2012 Tacoma, not sure if I should be concerned or not...

Thanks, I just got this Tacoma last fall. I have to admit I’m not the most educated with vehicles but really want to learn. I just noticed all this rust located behind both of my rear wheels, not sure if I should be concerned the truck has ran perfect so far.

Welcome aboard.
This is the perfect place to learn about your truck as long as you can weed through all the BS. Like @whatstcp said above, remove the wheels, wire brush and treat then paint. I'd recommend a rust converting primer followed by a brake component specific paint (high heat tolerant). Rust on the rear drums is normal and unavoidable, but I try to stay ahead of it whenever I can. It also depends on where you're located. Snow/salt belt and it's going to get a lot worse than that. Dry southwest and you're right on par with every other car on the road. It'll most likely come back, but add it to your regular maintenance and you should be way ahead of any one else on the road.

Not a big deal unless you are one that prefers looks over gettin it done. Drums are a consumable item, the bigger question is, how much rust is under the truck?

Drums are about 30-100 bucks a side depending on who you buy through. Personally, I would not worry bout it. The frame on the other hand......

It's in "decent" shape, but rust is like cancer: untreated it will grow and spread.

If you use the right paint, it wont. Ive used duplicolor ceramic caliper paint on mine. Its held up great for 7 months so far.

I would say the biggest issue with Tacoma drums is getting them off when the thing has 150K+ on it. Please don't tell me how to get them off I already know mine got anti seize at about 5K. Good luck with getting plaint to stay on them if there is even the slight bit of rust.

You are completely fine. This shit happens, doesnt affect the performance of your braking in the least. You can leave it or paint it if its too much of an eye-sore for you. Just make sure you dont get paint on the inside of the drum.
