Full coverage with progressive no questions asked.

My last salvage vehicle was on safeco insurance and it was fine too.

The only company I've heard of issues with from friends is state farm. They sound like a terrible company to deal with either way.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
    Damn!
Some one fell asleep and hit a tree?

The fix is pretty impressive. Definitely took a lot of work.

No issue for full coverage for me as well.

I know going into the deal that the car will be repaired no problem if the accident does not " total" the vehicle.

If my rebuilt truck is " totalled", I will only receive 50% market value.

    I'm okay with that.

If the insurance company paid out full, clear title value for the second totalling, people would buy and purposely wreck them so they could go out and buy a clear titled vehicle.

i think socal has ocd , he had a tacoma and did a overland build , once he achieved it he sold it and bought a ram. Once he had the ram he said he was going to do an overland build as well. He slapped a grill, new infotainment, a/t tires , and was obsessing over the front headlights for a bit , then he sold it and has a tundra now. Now hes doing something with tundra. All of this in 3 year time span . Im no dr but thats sounds like ocd to me

I’m seriously OCD with vehicles lol. The Tacoma was great, underpowered as crap though and hated the 3.5L. Ram was awesome, but so freaking expensive to maintain, register, and absolutely massive.

The Tundra is a mix of the Taco and Ram. Easy to work on and really cheap to drive, maintain, etc.

The YouTube and affiliate links pay for all the truck stuff. It’s fun being able to mod out and try all the trucks!

The Tundra rips though. Love it. Highly recommend lol.

For OP, the reason to walk away from rebuilt titles is resale, difficultly to insure, and the ability to find something clean title. You can pick up a 2nd gen, which is WAY better than a 3rd gen for pretty cheap.

I can weigh in here. My beauty was a salvage.
    • Loan with my regular bank, is very easy. I purchased out outright regardless.
    • Full coverage, never a problem in Hawaii or Colorado.
    • Resale, yes agreed. I bought mine 2016 TRD Sport 4WD with 40k miles for $22,500. She was perfect in every way. I figure my savings overcame my possible future loss.
Additionally, I required the shop to provide me in writing a 60 day no questions asked warranty for ANY issues I may have. They complied. They are/were a rather reputable Tacoma-only rebuilder shop in Hawaii.

Finally, 9 out of 10 times I would not buy a rebuild. The pros just outweighed the cons in my situation.

Wow, I had no issue insuring mine. Is this a state to state variable?

Nearly everything auto insurance related is a state to state thing. :)
