Receiver Hitch Recommendations

I have a '08 4x4 with the 2.7 4 cylinder engine. I'd like to put a hitch receiver on it.

We don't expect to do any heavy-duty hauling with this rig, especially in the mountains, where we will be living. We will want to pull a small U-Haul a few times and perhaps a small (14') aluminum boat on a trailer. It'll be used mainly for a bed extender that supports long pieces of lumber.

Cequents are available on e-Bay for about $170. Any good? They claim to be the parent of Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite and Reese.

Curt Manufacturing sells one for $150, plus $35 for the receiver and a ball.

There's what appears to be a foreign-made hitch for $100 but I'm suspicious of it. Even if it fits, I'd be worried about the quality of the welds.

I don't see a need for the factory towing package because most of it won't be necessary.

Any others I should be looking at? Any other advice?

I say do U Haul...not sure if they still have the lifetime warranty on them or not but used to for $5 you could get the warranty and if anything happened to it...even if you get rear ended and tear it up they will fix/replace.

 

Valley Hitch was the easiest thing around to install, looks factory..

 

For my money the extra 30-60 bucks for the one stamped hidden hitch, draw-tite or reese is money well spent. In the towing world they are well respected, and in all my years of towing none of them have ever failed, nor in all my years of towing have I seen one of them rust out or otherwise look like it was prone to fail. Bear in mind that for those of you who plan to tow, this is all that stands between you and your trailer comeing appart from your truck, this is not really the place to skimp. (I am not employed by any of these companies I am a bicycle mechanic by trade)

Curt is a deascent hitch and priced well, but in my experience (On gen 1 tacomas) it sticks out beyond the bumper and looks like an afterthought.

I work for a delivery service and we do deliveries for uhaul. Uhaul gets their hitches from valley industries - thule - drawtite, and curt and just stick a uhaul sticker on them.

 

Is $168. plus shipping a fair price for the class 4, VA82790 w/ all the installation hdw ?

less the wiring adapter.

brand new in the box from eBay/carparts.... any experiences with them?
