Another difference it looks like (I'm looking at the Compustar Pro T13 kit) is that they have both the fancy 2-way fob w/ 3-mile range AND smartphone control working interchangeably. Not one or the other.

Our hardware used to be able to once upon a time, software and hardware changes caused them to no longer play nice...which isn't a big deal for us. Out of thousands of kits sold, I think maybe 2 folks utilized this setup prior to the changes mentioned...we're not worried about it. Most people don't want to carry extra fobs if they don't need to as thier pockets are already full with a means of control that they're already carrying: OEM fob and smartphone...most don't care to carry an extra fancy fob so that they have 3 ways to turn thier car on? We're focused on the common solutions anyhow and what our previous sales reports said about the setup you're implying.

Let me ask you a question, are you wanting a long range fancy fob AND telematic knowing that your OEM fob is also a player in this picture? I'm a realist so I'm curious to know...I know the industry, the hardware, the competition, capabilities and so on, but are YOU going to go this route?

To each his own and good luck with your research. Very respectable. I'm the same way.

The fob you get is NOT a replacement for your OEM fob...it does not have the transponder built in, and cannot be programmed to replace the transponder chip your OEM fob has. You WILL have to carry both.

I realized that, that's why I'm going to go with the N2 Designs kit. I don't want to carry all that.

I almost forgot; my previous car had walk-away lock which I really like having. I'm guessing this is what's now called "proximity lock / unlock". Does the N2 kit have this feature?

No, that's predominately an OEM feature. There is a product on the market that is 3rd party that can give you that though...
