This is my first Toyota and my wife's 2017 Elantra didn't have it when we bought it new.

But her car did have Apple CarPlay...which we did not use as functionally as we do now--ever since I bought my truck in May 2021.

I had an aftermarket Remote Start installed on my wife's car last year...and it works totally different than my Tacoma.

 

Meanwhile you can start the tacoma with the fob like normal. Exit the vehicle with the key and it stays running. It's kinda the opposite of remote start but same thing the door opens and the key is no longer with the vehicle

 

Speaking of FOB.. how far can you drive away from it.. & what happens.? Once I let Miss’s drive my truck.I was in front of her in different car, she calls me & says No FOB detected, i stop & give it to her. Jus other day I start truck FOB in pants.. then switch pants & leave get down street & around corner.. No FOB detected. So whipped around & grabbed it. Always wondered what would happen.

 

The only thing that happens is that if you turn off the vehicle, you will not be able to restart it. That’s it.

 

2022 M760i tuned by Hamann Motorsports in Germany. My anniversary present to her for putting up with me being gone 6 to 8 months out of the year for the last 20 plus years.

On a side note, that tuned V12 with AWE exhaust makes a beautiful, loud, wicked sound.

I have not deleted the app off my phone--info still populates and I have not disabled anything.

 

Disabled it and deleted the app over 2 years ago. My fob still works to remote start.

 

The remote start from the app is nice but the shutoff feature when the doors open is so annoying. I don’t know of any other vehicle that does that. When my service expires I won’t be renewing it. The remote start with the fob is finicky. Takes me a few tries every single time.

 

I think your information about Apple CarPlay requiring a subscription is wrong.

 

80/ year just for remote services via app. I just renewed it.

It helped prevent a break-in attempt at our home when we were on vacation.

 

This is interesting since I think connected services is satellite based and key fob is RF based. I would have tested this if I had known you need to be subscribed for the key fob method to work.

 

The app and Toyota use cellular service just like On-Star. No satellites except for GPS and XM and all of them use RF.

 

Oh This makes sense because the CC charge is named as OnStar!

FOB remote start range is not good. I can stand line of sight nothing in the way about 150 ft away in parking lot, doesnt start. Comparison..my old car honda FOB like 500 ft away could reach. Almost seems pointless to have gotten. I dont use the App as I wont be paying monthly to start the car when the trial runs out. Seems to be make a crappy remote start product and entice you to pay a subscription.
