    Hi All,

I guess this might be a two part question. For those of you who wheel with stock suspension, do you usually remove your sway bar before a wheeling trip? If so, how hard is it to remove? Removing the sway bar seems pretty straight forward but from what it looks like, the sway bar tucks under the front skid plate. Does the front skid plate need to come off in order to remove the bar? I have a TRD front skid and that thing is a bit of a beast to take off and put back on again.

they should make an aftermarket electronic disconnectable sway bar mod.

12 bolts (14 if you remove all the brace bolts)/2 nuts about 8 minutes removal time. Inatallation is about 10 min. job. Mine stays on till I get ready to hit the trail. Its a pretty simple job, it doesnt take long after you do it 2 or 3 times.

    Like Jeep Rubicon has stock.

I love my disconnects on my 4runner.

Interesting, so you plan to get into the thick of it on a stock set up but feel the need to remove the bar? Maybe you can throw some quick disco's on there like most jeepers do?

Problem with newer generations are if you disconnect the bar will come in contact with the cv's. Only 1st gens can disco easily.

Thanks for the tips. Do you have to remove the skid plate first? Also, would it be possible to remove just the links and zip tie the bar somehow?

I mean, stock vs. aftermarket coilovers, you get the same amount of travel. With the bar gone, you get better wheel stuff regardless. I researched quick d/c's (even on 1st gens) and there weren't any great options. I actually removed the front bar permanently on my 1st gen after I upgraded my C/O's and loved everything from the ride to the extra wheel stuff while climbing over rocks. The aftermarket C/O's were much stiffer than stock which made this possible. Wouldn't even dare leaving the bar off permanently with my current setup even with the TRD Pro Fox shocks. It's all rock climbing out here in Colorado and even though I don't plan on doing anything too crazy, having the extra wheel stuff is always nice and maybe even more beneficial for the stock ride-height I'm dealing with.

I hear ya, I am in Colorado too actually, and have hit Moab and a few trails near the front range, still stock tires/suspension but not disconnecting my sway. Interested to hear which trails you benefited greatly from this, seriously, I am not making fun! I had the currie antirock flex sway on my LJ and that was awesome, maybe someone can come up with this for the Taco?

I have seen major improvements disconnecting front sway bar on every single offroading vehicle I have owned. Especially on open diff vehicles. You get a few additional inches of droop allowing less chance of a front tire coming off the ground. I also live in CO and have hit many trails from my city to Moab. Conquering trails rated 7-8 out of 10 with an open diff, 33" tired 4runner.

Yes . Skid has to come off. There is no way I'd leave the bar in and just remove the links on the '16. I don't belive there is any way possible to secure it so it will not get into the springs or anything else in that area.

I took mine off and left it off.

But be careful. You'll roll your truck many times a day with it off!

Yeah, I just took mine off today because it was contacting the Mobtown skid I just installed. I'm still debating on how (if) to reinstall it.

Honestly, I like the feel and didn't experience and serious roll. You'll get people on both sides of the argument.

I'd love to see an auto-disconnect sway bar too, I'll work on that haha.

Thank you for all the great responses. Unless I can figure out a way to secure the bar after removing the links, I’ll just leave it alone. I transport my kids in my Taco and even if there’s a slight bit more chance of rolling the truck, it’s not worth it to me. Removal of the skid plate is the ultimate boner killer here otherwise I’d have no qualms removing the entire bar before a wheeling trip. That TRD skid plate is a PITA to re-install.

The issue is even if you secure the sway bar after disconnect the CVS will travel up and hit the bar. Due to design there it's no easy way to disconnect.

I run these on my 3rd gen 4runner. Works fine on this setup.

Yep, I messed around on my gen 2, disconnected an endlink and destroyed a CV boot after making a turn.
