reprogramming the speedometer

I am putting a 6" lift and 35" tires and i was told to get the speedometer reprogrammed... what is the best way to go about doing that?

 

I dont think its possible...

 

My friend was actually telling me that it needs to get recallibratedfor those tires

 

search for super chip programmers or something. they usually have something to calibrate the speedometer. or you can be cheap like me and buy a garmin with the speed thing built in

 

They make calibrators that go inline with speedo signal, but I think folks had issues with getting them to work right with the Taco speedo.

I don't think that the speedo is really adjustable with the stock set up. Depending on your current speedo "error" and the tires you are planning on it may fix your error. You may want to think about re-gearing as well...and I'd talk to a shop about that at least and see what they recommend...

 

well its good if you do re-calibrate because your mileage will be off on the odometer. But hey thats good for resell right? lol

ill do some research on that i was going to look into a programmer

 

Lol well its good to know I am not the only one doing the Garmin thing, it works miracles. Anyways, so far I haven't heard of anything else really.

 

Get a Scangauge II.
It won't reprogram the computer - but it'll take the information from the computer and change it according to how you have the scangauge setup.
It'll be just a 'calculated' display so you'll know how fast you're going, etc.

Do some research ....I know folks use the Scangauge for this purpose.

Dakota Digital makes a calibrator that will work on our trucks.. i know people have installed it but have yet to see a write up anywhere on the actual install.... right now mine is like 15 mph off.. been putting off getting the dakota box.. right now i just use the scanguage...

I say get a ScangaugeII. You're truck will have lower mileage, and the bonus of having all the functions of the Scangauge....
