…..Just before I took the 2018 Tacoma 4x4 for it's 10,000 mile check up it developed a 'graduating' minor roar coming from rear drivers side...resembles the old noise of blowing air across a coke bottle...and fluctuates...seems to be getting louder and even does it at 'through town' speeds??? Service dept said there was a bulletin on it, going to (start) with replacing rubber grommets...………..any similarities??

There are holes on the bottom of the lower control arms in the front. The rubber grommets plug those, eliminating the noise. It’s a good place for the dealer to start.

Mind if I pick your brain? So what are the holes for? Just manufacturing holes?

I’m not sure. Drainage? There’s holes on top too. Armor vendors use it as mounting points for LCA skid plates stocks.

Oh, ok. Guess it is not a harmful thing then. I know sometimes in past vehicles they would have holes like that in order for the mechanic to get an extension or other tools through the part in question in order to assist in removal and repair if needs be.

That’s a good thought, but nothing like that here. Maybe they think if they seal it up, it’ll be easier for it to rust out since even a tiny bit of moisture will wreak havoc in there. The holes would allow it to dry out. Just a thought
