Im going to be building me and a couple freinds some rock sliders. And was wondering (for those that built there own sliders) what was your total cost of materials.
Trying to get a idea of prices and cost to build my own vs. buying sliders in a kit that i weld up myself.

if you have all the tools, and don't count time, it shouldn't be much at all. the last time I bought any steel was 2x2x.125 and it was about 2 dollars a foot. I believe schedule 40 1 1/2" pipe to be about the same, which is what I would probably use.

slider manufacturers use quality stuff like domestic made hrew or dom tubing, which is stronger with about the same dimensions as 1 1/2" pipe. that stuffs more pricy. my local steel supplier (Jims Supply) gives over the phone quotes. . .

Im going to use 1 3/4" Hrew pipe .120 and then either 3/16" or 1/4" for mounting plates and gussets.. Im doing bolt on.
I guess im going to need to get a quote from my local steel yard.. Im hoping its not too much... the only thing I dont have is a bender.. Im hoping I can get away with the harbor freight one and get descent bends.. :(

we had a harbor freight one in high-school. did great but I only used it for small stuff. cant remember the capacity but I think it could do 1 3/4 with the proper dies of course and the leverage multiplier attachment thing. took me a few tries to learn takeoffs on it though, I don't remember any sort of sighting or reference you could use

I think it should work out fine. I just priced out some steel online and it came out to like $140-160.. I hope my steel yard is cheaper.:)

I went by my local steel yard, and they have 1-3/4" .120 wall tube for about $59 for 20ft.
Not too bad... I just to get me a descent bender.. Im hoping I can make the harbor freight pipe bender work... I dont want to spend a bunch on a bender i will only use 4-5 times...

FWIW, and you can build them however you want. I would consider making the mount plates, and bend them so they hook / grab the lower frame rail.

I have BAMF sliders and they are nice. Downside is to get super strength you must not just bolt to existing frame holes but also drill the frames lower flange.

If the inboard edge of the bracket was up, this would hook the frames flange and add upward vertical strength if the truck was lifted by the slider. This would allow mounting via the oem frame holes, and capture the frame along the bottom edge. As Jerry Lee of BAMF mentioned though when I discussed this with him, it needs to be done correctly or the slider could flex upward and contact the bodywork.

^ Thanks for the tip! I was going to to make the mounting plates L shaped to hook and bolt to the underside of the frame rail.. To give it alittle extra strength.
Im not going to be bashing on these, there just for If I every need them, they're there. :)

What do you guys think about doing both a bolt on and also weld some spots so I wouldnt have to drill so many holes?

There is a difference between PIPE and TUBING. A pipe bender will not adequately bend tubing. Not sure what harbor freight has but I only remember crappy pipe benders.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
If you are going to weld at all you might as well fully weld them on. For a bolt on slider to be strong on a 05+ Tacoma you need to drill holes you can't get away from it i don't care what anyone says if you beat on a no drill bolt on slider it will fail and it will end badly.

If you want to go bolt in DIY i can sell you the bolt on plates to save you time and money on your steel. Also if you don't want to buy the HF kinker i also offer DIY sliders where you source the 2" x 2" square and I provide everything else bent notched and ready to weld.
