Considering a roof rack install on my Snugtop Xtra Vision when I get it. Looking at photos online of various low profile models without side rails, I noticed some have the slats (floor) of the rack running perpendicular to the centerline of the truck, and others (a few) have slats running parallel with the centerline. I'm wondering if there is less wind noise/drag with the latter configuration, and maybe better mpg.. Anyone know?

I have an SnugTop XV with the optional Thule roof rack, I don't hear any wind noise or whistling with my setup. My old Yakima setup used to whistle like crazy until I added the fairing, luckily so far anyway, my Thule is quiet.

Yep, the Yakima rack on my '98 4Runner had a fairing; took it (the fairing) off cause I didn't like the looks, then put it back on cause couldn't stand the noise. Good quality rack, I thought. Hauled stuff on it for 17 years with zero problems. Took it off a few times to repaint with satin black spray paint. Replaced the fairing once due to cracks at the hinge. Looked new when I got rid of the truck. This time though, I want a flat rack without the vertical side rails, a rack that hugs the truck/shell roof. Had too much trouble getting into parking garages with low clearance with the side rails on the Yakima. Any suggestions on make/model?
