So I asked my dealer if they can increase my idle by 100rmps to 600rpms because I don't like feeling the engine vibration at idle in cab of truck through steering wheel etc...THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THE IDLE IS NOT ADJUSTABLE...that can't be true can it? I have a 67 Camaro with FiTech FI and idle and all that stuff is fully adjustable....also the dealership tech told me all the Tacomas idle like that.

Thanks @Ronzio's for the pic....I have 4,700 miles on my 2019...some have said it took them till 6,000 to 7,000 miles before their idle leveled out at 600rmps but that doesn't seem to me to make any sense...my idle is below 500rpms.

You could always put FiTech EFI on your Tacoma.

My truck idled super rough until about 10k miles. Not sure why, but it's always perfect now.

That sort of thing may be tunable in the aftermarket, but yeah, a dealer likely wouldn't have access to reprogram idle speed. Using a laptop they could probably kick it up by controlling the PID while they test drive it, but mothercorps often don't let the dealerships play with their programs.

but why would I be going through anything like that with only 4,700 miles on the truck?

It’s a self cleaning feature that the ecm uses when at idle. The ecm looks at the cycles it has been in use for the current trip and determines the length it needs to run the cleaning cycle when you are at idle.

I noticed my truck do this this morning for the first time at a few stop lights. It seemed like a slight miss at idle. Could just feel it. Under load it was fine. None at all when driving home from work.

Yeah this is how mine is too....I try to find a commonality to it but its too random....frankly I find this very odd....I excepted this V6 to be smooth as a sewing machine...unfortunately its NOT....it is starting to piss me off too....mine at its worst you can really feel it stumbling....rough idle thing you can feel it all through the cab....steering wheel...arm rest....when your leg touches the door...then under load it revs and shifts fine....of course it only does this in D if you are in N it doesn't do it....it really better level out soon b/c its damaging my love affair with this truck....I would liken it to a girl you are starting to date who keeps talking about her Effing ex boyfriend.

The engine is so complicated with technology. It does make for a love/hate relationship. It makes different sounds at different temp levels, many times sounds like ticking lifter. Has exhaust sound too from the Atkinson cycle and varying valve overlap. All in all I really love it.

The 4.0L I had in my gen 2 also did the same noisy. Never had an issue though.

I am generally used to noisy engines my last truck was a 2010 F150 5.4L V8 with what they call a phaser cam....it made the most odd random ticking noise it sounded like a diesel engine...I also used to own a 1983 Porsche 911SC and WOW that mechanical lifter 6 made all sorts of crazy cool sounds

The V6 has BOTH direct injection and port fuel injection. Direct injection engines made by all makes have strange requirements like cleaning cycles and they can be a little unrefined at idle, like a diesel. But direct injection gives you more power for a given amount of fuel consumption and emissions.

I wouldn't give a shit if the engine made kazoo noises as long as it performs well.

Exactly! These new engines, it is normal for them. It's not like there's something wrong.
