Do the stock running boards sit up tight to the frame or door/body panels so that they could trap water/salt and contribute to rust forming more quickly?

Anyone have close up photos of how they sit?

3 inch suspension lift all around. Aftermarket 17's.
    I'm also curious.

No, there's a gap and there are oval holes in the boards on the edge against the truck. I'll see if I have pics.

And, with the OEM running boards, most snow, slush/salt accumulation occurs on the underside (aluminum frame).

I'd say there's about a 1/2" gap between the lower body & pinch weld and the inside edge of the running board. I've never had an issue with anything (snow, slush, mud) accumulating there. I do have front mud flaps (Husky) though. When I was it, I make an effort to get that area well with a handheld wash brush.
