Running boards/steps suggestions?

Considering running boards or steps...been reading alot that some of these are kind of flimsy but I don't plan to put much weight on them. May use them to reach the roof when drying off or waxing! Any suggestions are appreciated!

 

Don't. Most are flimsy, ALL are mounted to sheet metal underneath and in PA they are gonna corrode. Weld on sliders are good. You can get them made more like a running board for your needs. Most any reputable fab shop can do this. Its a fun DIY project if you can weld.

Any idea what custom sliders would cost? Bare bones, nothing fancy, just straight sliders?

 

400-1000+ depending on use. I would guess you would be 400+custom drop and labor, 600ish? Might be able to do something LESS beefy because you aren't holding the truck up or bashing rocks. Custom fab would have no idea. The fancy retractable running boards are 1000+. Its gonna be stupid expensive, so brace yourself. Best of luck.

I have the OEM running boards (

$528 PT212-35055 Running Board

PT212-35055) that are aluminum (IIRC) with a composite cover for the top. They don't flex or bend at all and I weigh about 250lbs. I have had them since 2016 and I live in Iowa. They usa a good amount of salt and brine used in the winter, I don't know how that directly compares to PA but corrosion is a huge factor here as well. They still look great and on the bottom of the running board I do not apply any corrosion inhibitor. HOWEVER I do use Fluid Film on the mounting location where it mounts to the body every year before winter. They still look fantastic and the bolts come out with ease as well.

I got the running boards from my local dealer for around $275. Sometimes dealers are cheaper than others and even cheaper than online sometimes.

 

My truck came with them and im debating taking them off and selling them. Im 6'3 and I don't need them, and when I get out it's annoying bc I just graze my calf on it. Any downside to not having them? Truck is also lifted.

 

I like my N-Fabs, 3 inch main tubes, sturdy and sprayed with bed liner, no corrosion.

 

I like the look of these. Will these fit the 3rd Gens (2016+)?

 

I don't know.....I think toyota makes some very similar though for the 3rd gen.

What are thoughts on the OEM Predator steps? I like the look but unsure of the practicality.

 

I picked up a used set of OEM predator side steps and really like them. Look around for someone who took them off and want to off load them.

 

Just a thought on predator steps. My truck came with them and I took them off after 2 months. I kept hitting my shins on them or grime would get on my pants from them because of the angle of the step.
They’ve literally just been taking up space in my garage ever since.

 

Never thought of using spray on bedliner. Wondering if that a fairly easy dyi project.
