I hope I am in the right discussion forum for this?

I recently purchased an 07 Tacoma Double Cab LB V6 4 x 4 that was bought in the North East(Massachusetts).
There is a frame recall and in worst cases they are providing frame replacement in the so called "cold states". Like my state is not, right? lol

Toyota said that they would not honor their re-call as my state is not in their campaign of the cold states for the frame recall even though it spent the first part of it's existence in Mass.

Anyway it has some fairly significant frame rust and I plan on this pickup probably being my last one due to my age and the cost of this pickup.
It has 73 K on it. I gave $22K, maybe a bit much?

The dealer I bought it from has said that we could have it sand blasted and re-coated.

I took it to a guy yesterday and discussed the situation with him and he said "absolutely not"! on the sandblasting of the frame as it would put sand all throughout the pickup.

He said that the way to do it would be to take a "scaler" which is like a needle drill and go over all of the rust and get it off the best that he could of which he states he would probably not be able to get it off completely.
He said at that point he would re-coat it with Por-15.
Looking for advice and appreciate your opinions.
    Thanks in advance.

I sand blasted my '98. Got 5 more yrs out of it. I had no issue with left over sand. It does work better if you remove the box.box.

I drove the truck to 300,000 miles. At that point, other parts of the frame rusted out to the point of being unsafe. Figured I got my money's worth out of the truck.

I liked the truck I replaced it with the same thing.

    Thanks for the info.
Gonna do the same, remove box, gas tank and jack up cab as high as possible on both sides too.
    Re-coating will be Por-15.

It looks great!! Cost was $1500.
Dealer I bought the pickup from split it with me.
I think that was a great deal!!
    Well worth it!!
