My 2011 Tacoma satellite radio cuts out frequently here in Northern Maine due to trees or mountains. Wondering if the new 2014 satellite antennas get better reception? If so are the antenna connections interchangeable?

I'm in Central Maine and get a lot of cutting out with the radio on my 2014. Much worse than my last 2 GM vehicles with satellite radios.

Not sure what you can do but found this, maybe try the truckers antenna linked in the article.

Are you using the toyota built in antenna or the sirius/xm magnetic one? The reason I ask is it seems like I got better reception when I used my magnetic antenna in my 1st gen compared with using toyotas built in one on my 09.

I have a 2014 and my XM, HD, and FM reception stinks! I have a portable unit in my Camry and I used to put it in my 2013 Tacoma, it works flawlessly. It's not just yours, I'm not happy with my reception either.

My '12 has always had great satellite reception. But it only takes a slight obstruction blocking the sky from a southern direction to lose the signal on any vehicle with satellite radio.

I was wondering if the difference has anything to do with the design. My portable has memory in it, I can actually pause and rewind music on my Starmate5. Maybe its storing data and has the ability to eliminate blank spots? That does however leave the issue that FM and HD drops out too. I can drive the same road with both vehicles, my car never cuts out, the truck would be blank all the way down that road.

    None ... yet!
I'm having this issue as well.

Bought a 2014 Taco and the sat radio reception is awful (I live in central MA). Had after-market units in my last two cars and the reception was amazing, almost 100% reliable.

Wondering if there is anyway to help this. Called Sirius and they sent a new signal to the receiver, but it didn't help. BAH!

I never did hear if the OP was using the factory antenna or one that's a magnetic mount. I'd been using a portable XM unit for the past 6 years, but about 6 weeks ago, I installed a unit from XMfanstore.com that is controlled by my factory touch screen radio. When I installed it, I also did the "stealth install" on my magnetic antenna and it works great. Only time mine ever cuts out is if I drive slowly under an overpass.

For those of you with the magnetic antenna, where are you mounting it? I just got an aftermarket Alpine stereo with satellite and the magnetic antenna was mounted in the corner of my dash on the passenger side (2006 Tacoma). Before I take some stuff apart to move it to the center of the dash, just behind the in front of the defrost vent, I thought I would ask. Eric

Any obstruction from the satellite connection and you lose it, I'd lose mine going through trees for sure, underpasses, and a few times from street lights of all things.

Not worth the hassle IMO, but fun for a few months.
