I hauled some furniture the other day and it scratched the bed up a bit. The material they make the bed out of does not seem as durable as the stuff they make drop in bedliners out of. Do they even make a bedliner to fit second gen tacomas?

Its much more durable than you think. You just scratched the coating over the fiber insides.

It's a truck and you used it for what it is actually for, congrats.

I've scratched mine on the sides and front hauling metal too. I don't remember my drop in bedliner on my '98 scratching as easily...

I do not mind scratching it up a bit, I bought it to use. At the same time though I would like to keep it as nice as I reasonably can.

At least one of the scratches got into the material it is made out of. The gash is fairly deep and white fiberglass looking stuff is showing. I guess I could just spray some black paint on it but I never remember this happening with other trucks that had drop in bedliners.

Is it on the rails or in the bed? I have a bed mat, it's thick rubber and it's def saved a few gashes. This week I must have hauled 25+ loads of furniture, tools and supplies from Home Depot. If it's on the rails, not sure what you can do...

I put a 68 Olds 400 motor in the back of mine one day thought i was good because it was on a pallet used a cherry picker pulled the motor off the skid pulled the skid out and of course the skid had a bent nail on the bottom. It put a 2 in wide by 6 inches long gash in my bed. The next day I stopped by Toyota and ordered a bed mat.

The worst place is on the inside of the tailgate. The rest are mostly on the floor. A bed mat might be a good addition.

If you're that worried about scratching your current bed, then a truck is not the vehicle for you.

+1 for thick rubber bedmat. Extra nice to lay on too.

I never understood why the second gen beds can't be scuffed up/sanded and sprayed with bed liner.

I never heard that you can't do it, it just seems a waste of money. Scratches won't rust so it's just a cosmetic thing. A bed mat keeps things from sliding around and it's a lot cheaper than Rhino Liner or LineX.

I've had a couple different bedliner guys tell me that the liner won't stick to plastic as well as ig sticks to metal and the ones I've talked to won't warrantee the product at all.

I used this stuff and it did pretty good on blending in the scratches.

Lasted quite a while too but when it started to fade off, It didn't just fade out but instead started flaking off... I cared quite abit about scratching the bed on my pretty X-Runner until I did a pick and pull run and got a exhaust for my friends BMW 328I... Not only did it scratch up the bed, The pointed exhaust tips were stabbing the the bed wall... Soooo, Now I just say screw it, It's a truck and throw everything back there.
