Seafoam

1/3 in crankcase (where you put in oil) , 1/3 in vacuum hose (let it sip!) 1/3 in your gas tank.

i did mine last month and it works wonders

 

for me id do it once a year- but theres a some people here that do it a lot. its your call bro.

 

After all the reading about seafoam I decided to try it on my new/used taco with 111K on it. I know it wasn't cared for like I care for things and I didn't have the time to do the vacuum style treatment that is indicated here so I just dumped 3/4 of the bottle in the gas tank and drove it till empty and then added the rest with the fillup. I am pretty positive that it helped out quite a bit. Before I put it in the engine sounded nice and smooth but seemed to idle around the 1500 range, now that it has run through it seems to run around 750 or so when warm and really purrs.

I'll try it on the wifes Rav4 and see if it helps it out. I'm sure it'll help but this time I'll do the 1/3 bottle through the brake booster vacuum and see what really happens.

Got that deal the other day. Seafoamed my truck Sat. I didnt get a smoke show like others have.

 

I seafoamed last night and hesitantly tried it through the brake booster. That thing really sucks shit up, I don't think I could have dunked it in my cup if I tried, about 1/2 of the seafoam was gone in a matter of seconds. So is it bad that I ended up sucking in a bunch of unfiltered air as well? I mean it wasn't dusty or dirty or anything but still....

I seafoamed today through BB and the gas tank. Cleaned the MAF too...sadly tho i now have a CEL

 

Just signed up, been reading up for a bit though and bought my new (used - 2003 Tacoma 2.4 banger) - truck had 92K -

I decided to do the seafoam cleanse. used the brake booster, gas and oil -

car puffed out white smoke for about 5 minutes, driving around really coughed some stuff out, it idles nicely now. Before, the idle seemed a bit rough, nothing to cry home about...but definitely needed something cleaned - it seems to run a lot smoother.

 

New to the Tacoma scene, but not Yota's.

The purpose of the seafoam treatment is to clean out the carbon build up from the combustion chamber. If there's alot of carbon build up, then there will be a ton of smoke. Constant use of cheap gas will casue more carbon build up as well. Other factors play into this equation as well. Running it through the tank, with a quality fuel will help clean out the fuel system. However, this is not a fix-all for a dirty fuel filter...that still needs to be changed at it's recommended interval. When poured in the crank case, it will clean the oil galleys out and will dislodge sludge build up. Hopefully, you've been good about your oil changes and haven't gone more than the recommended mileage or time in between. Cheap oil, longer than recommended oil change intervals, driving style and driving conditions will all be a factor in oil sludge as well. Just be prepared if you know you've not treated you engine like you should've. Regular maintenance can't be bought in a can...or made up for in a can...

Having said that, I have Seafoamed my vehicle's on a annual regular basis. I do get some smoke that, does get some looks from the neighbor's. But not too much that I get so worried about blowing the engine up or destroying a cat. converter, or ruining a perfectly good O2 sensor.

Seafoam is safe to use, like anything else, if used in moderation.

If we all worried as much about what we put in our mouths as we do about this additive, our trucks would run better because there would be a lot less dead weight being driven around.

BTW, I am going to get some Seafoam... and I just ate a salad.

 

Well I bought some seafoam yesterday and added it to the crankcase. I woke up this morning and added some to the brake booster and it was smoking within 15 seconds. Quite a bit of smoke so I guess it had to do something. Getting my oil changed today so hopefully ill be able to tell a difference.

 

my wife has a '97 that wouldn't pass smog 2 yrs ago. i tried new spark plug wires, spark plugs, quick oil change, cleaned the maf, and it came to the point where i thought it had a bad cat b/c of the numbers it was showing.

i stumbled on seafoam as i was searching on the net for solutions. in the end, half a can of seafoam and the camry passed like a brand new car. it did puff out tons of smoke, fun to watch.

 

This is not only due to cheap gas but the ethenol that is now been introduced to the mixture. I have been doing all of my vehicles every 5000 miles thru the vacuum line with no problems. Depending on what crank case oil you are using most full synth. oils have a supposive self cleaner in them such as Amsoil.

 

funny story about seafoam....

so i had this old jeep wrangler... i'd just pour it in to the carb, worked really good at breaking up carbon, but the problem was it clocked the catalytic converter with carbon... was driving the jeep and it gradually lost power then stalled out.. the catalytic converter was red hot, and caught the under coating on fire... it burned for a bit untill i flagged down a ups man with a fire estinguisher... by that time 3 fire trucks were already there.... they wouldnt let me cut it off and drive away, made me get it towed.. so i towed it to the garage, saw zalled the converter off and drove it home...

so since then i've been on the fence about seafoam....

 

if you run it through your gas tank, make sure to change the fuel filter after a bit.
I havent used the stuff in my tacoma, but in my suzuki samurai, worked really well, passed smog and idles better. the fuel filter got clogged a couple days of driving.

 

thought i'd share my seafoam experience.

did it yesterday. 1/3 through vacuum line and 2/3 in the gas tank.

Completely smoothed out my idle and noticeable difference in acceleration. much smoother and better throttle response.

smoked for about 10 minutes all together.

 

sea foamed the truck today... it smoked for about an hour... though i'd share pictures.. my neigbor came over, thought my truck was on fire...

i drove it to on cue like a half hour ago for beer... a guy there said the smoke was coming from my transmission, that it was going bad. i said i just sea foamed it, that it was OK, he said trust me he's been doing this for 25 years it was my trasmission.... i think not. its sea foam..

 

I have SeaFoamed my Lexus IS300 with some nice results. I also put it in the fuel tank of my lawnmower and snow blower during the off seasons.

If you do put it in the vaccum lines, just allow the suction to suck the SeaFoam in by itself, dont force or spray the stuff into the intake or you can cause some problems. Take it slow.

 

what miles did you guys seaform your car? cause I know for any regular car past 100k miles is a risk, but i am not sure about the truck.
