I'm a newbie when it comes to mechanical stuff on these trucks. But I've driven stock tacomas for 20 years. I now have a 14 double cab 4x4. I'm not doing a lift or anything, but would I notice a big difference in ride quality if i replaced the factory shocks? 99% of my driving is city/highway. I'm not complaining. The ride is fine now. Just wondering if it would be any better with higher quality shocks.

Are there any shock replacements that would give the truck any lift by just replacing the shocks? Are there shocks in the front AND the rear? Sorry about the elementary questions. But with a little insight, I'll have better knowledge for searching the forum. Thanks.

All of this could probably be answered by doing a little more research on your end

Would something of higher quality be better than the sub par component that I have now? probably

The ride is fine now? So why change

Shock replacements that lift by replacing the shock? It isn't the shock that is lifting the truck, a shock body that places the spring perch higher (more compressed) may lift the truck

Does your truck have all four shocks? That would be better answered if you checked for yourself

In short, yes ride can be improved (sometimes drastically) by replacing shocks. It all depends on how deep ur wallet goes. The more you spend, the better it gets.

I put Billstein 5100 shocks on my double cab long bed at 90K miles. I noticed an improvement in ride quality but its not a huge difference. You can get lift on the front shocks with the 5100s but not the rear.

You've driven stock Tacoma's for 20yrs and are not aware the truck has four shocks! Two in front, two in the rear is your answer. If your satisfied with the ride for the conditions you drive than no need for change.Yes depending on how much money you want to spend you can notice a much improved ride quality with upgraded shocks.Bilstein 5100's can be adjusted on the front shocks to give you a level or higher lift but not for the rear without further upgrades.
