Simple setup questions

Looking to up the sound a little in my 13 AC. I just installed a 2015 non-JBL nav unit so that's staying. I've read a lot of the threads but still have questions and looking for suggestions. This will be a budget setup as my hearing sucks anyways. And looking for a fairly simple clean install.

My plans are roughly this:

Alpine KTP-445U amp (or similar Clarion). This will eliminate the need for an additional LOC. It's lowish power but it's a class d amp. It should provide enough power for a decent component set.

Decent component set for the front doors. Not sure on brand here as to me it's all over the place. I'm open to suggestions. I know Sound Ordnance has been mentioned here before. And I like the price. However if there is something noticeably better for slightly more money (or less money) I'm ok with that too. And Crutchfield throws in free adapters. I have enough MDF sitting around to make my own adapters in any case.

A simple self powered sub for the rear. Something along the lines of an Infinity Basslink or Kicker Hideaway type sub (but hopefully cheaper than those). I prefer clean tight bass over loud bass. The plane is run a simple cheap LOC off of the rear "speakers" (or whatever those turd things are in the headrest) to send a signal to the sub. And mount on the rear wall in between the rear seats. Mounted this way will keep the floor clear in case I need to throw groceries/beer back there.

Any suggestions are welcome. Unless it's high dollar. That's right out!

 

Also when tapping into the speaker wires for the amp, do the input wires have to be connected to the rest of the harness? Metra makes kind of an opposite wiring harness that plugs into the radio. I could get that and then run those to the amp. But it will take the harness completely out of the loop.

 

I think any decent component speakers that are amped and a powered subwoofer would be an improvement over the factory set up.

Thanks for the info! So you didn't connect the speaker wires back up to the factory harness? You just ran those to the LOC?

 

That depends on how you're going to wire up your other equipment. From you original post you said that the amp would go to the component speakers. Therefore you could take the speaker wires from the harness for the front channels to the amp input and then run new wires from the amps output to the component speakers. That leaves the rear speaker channels. You can hook these back up to the harness or run them to LOC for a powered sub woofer. If it was me I would do LOC to powered sub woofer over having the rear speakers hooked up. Depending on the powered subwoofer you might not need the LOC and run speaker wire from the harness to the input of the powered subwoofer.
