Sleeper audio build

I've considered upgrading the audio system, but have gone overboard on this topic with prior vehicles.

For the Tacoma (it is a 2013 btw) I'd like to upgrade the audio while keeping it look OEM. I'd switch out the deck if it fits in the OEM location without looking like someone dropped a bunch of money in it. I'm looking to keep all the OEM storage as well so no big amps or subs.

If you were to build what I'm going to call a sleeper audio build where would you start?

I see you are in NM. Are you in ABQ? I can recommend the place that did mine. I'm not sure if I can post it here (kinda new and don't know the rules), so shoot me a PM. They'd probably be worthwhile to at least talk to.

Upgraded the speakers, added sound deadening, added a sound processor, an amp, and a sub. Kept the stock head unit to try to keep attractiveness to thieves to a minimum.

 

I had most of mine from my previous vehicle.

Kenwood single DIN CD player..I didn't care to go double DIN as I don't use MP3 players or GPS, I have a standalone GPS already.

 

Yep living in ABQ, thus the added desire for a low profile

keep stock deck if it's not a JBL unit

buy 6.5" or 6x9 separates for doors [try to get some that extend pretty low]

install many pounds of sound deadening

if not loud enough purchase and install low profile amplifier that will fit under seat/in dash. wire this to power front stage

if not loud enough, design and build 3 way front stage.

if not loud enough, too bad. sleeper builds in trucks don't get subwoofers

 

Def put some sound deadening in the doors and the back wall. I think you'll notice better response from your speakers. I noticed an improvement for sure.

 

Also, you can easily run an amp under your front seat. I went with a JL audio amp, cuz it had built in line out, so I just hooked up the front speaker wires into it for signal, and it worked great with my Hybrid Audio components.

 

We have a few things coming that will fit EXACTLY what your wanting to do
Stock deck, 1 small DSP unit that powers all the speakers can do 3 way active if you want even.

 

Time estimate on when this will happen?

 

I can't really give one, other than soon. We will hopefully have it all narrowed and sorted for full production ( including a whole lot of oem replacement parts ) in the first quarter.

Do you have audio related expertise at all? I may be able to send you parts and with our guidance put it together vs direct plug and play

I'm an electrical engineer and fabricated a number of audio systems for vehicles including fiberglass enclosures. Had one 10 in a CRX and people swore it was a pair of 15. that was 20 years ago though. I'm no where near current with current options, thus the post.

Currently I'm rebuilding wiring harnesses that will be Mil-Spec or better for a number of FJ40s. Can't share to much on those projects as of yet as we are not public with full build plans for these vehicles.
