    Hi all,
I got FJ Cruiser OEM rock sliders off of Craigslist for just $100. I want to put them on my 2010 DCLB. Each of the sliders requires 8 holes. I'm not much comfortable with drilling in the frame so i thought i'd ask before doing anything.
Is the drilling going to weaken the frame in any way? The holes are 5/16".
If i'd go ahead with the install what should be the distance of the slider from door sills? These OEM sliders are only 60" in length but i'm going to use them as steps in 99.9% so it's not an issue for me i guess.
    Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

3" lift EIBACH coils w/ 5100's front, OME/ Dakar leaf springs w/ toytec adjustable shackles at 1.5" and 5125's out back. 33x10.5x15 KM2's Relentless DIY steel bumper.
$100 bucks is a good deal but 60" sliders on a DBCB LB may look a little off. Maybe if you center them in between the front and rear doors then it may be ok, especially to be used as steps only. As for install just weld them on, I wouldn't suggest drilling holes into the frame.

Yeah FJ sliders are going to be short on a DCLB. I make them 94" for your model, and 82" for ACLB & DCSB. If they fit up to the frame snug and you like the outcome, it's not a big deal to drill the frame on bottom. You'll be drilling through 2 layers of frame, and the second layer seems harder to get through, so start with a small bit (1/8") and work up bits until you reach the final size.

A lot of people are leery of drilling the frame, but a million people have done it and it's really the only way to get any decent footing without buying "no drill" sliders.

Will drilling weaken the frame? Absolutely. Will it weaken it enough to cause any problems? Highly unlikely.

I just welded my sliders on and called it a day :D

As far as location is concerned, it is really about personal preference. A bunch of the Alaska members got in on a brute force group buy on sliders and most of us got the same features. The sliders shipped to us looking exactly the same (except the AC/DC) Every one of us has them mounted at different angles with different stickout from the cab and centered different.

If you like how the 60 inch looks, then drill some holes and mount 'em up how you want them!

Thank you everyone very much. Once the rain stops pouring I will mount them up.

These frames are littered with holes from the factory. Welding produces a lot of heat, and can weaken a frame worse than a few holes if not done correctly. I personally don't think 4 little holes on the bottom of each frame rail is going to change anything. I've been cutting & welding on frames long enough now to know it'll be fine if done right. In your case with some little holes, nothing to worry about.
