Ya, these trucks are decent... just not under 3k. which is very car like, They should have keep the low end torque power band i think but whatever, I dont tow very often and basically use my truck as a car. Others may hate it

I have it, feel it and hate it. Was hoping it was related to the transmission and thought the TSB would've cleared it up. It didn't. I don't really drive with the A/C off so I will give that a shot a see if it is still prevalent.

Has anyone used and OBD diagnostic tool (like Torque or similar) to actually find out if it is a miss?

I tried briefly last night buy apparently didn't have the software setup correctly on my phone. Torque isn't the most user friendly app around for sure.

I started a thread on this a month or so ago.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/slight-engine-misfire-at-45-55-mph.446735/

Same slight miss at lower RPM 1,000-2,000 when I'm easy on the gas in 3rd-5th gears it seems.....No, not the AC compressor as I have it off.

I don't know if it's the Adkinson cycle causing it or what it is.

Of course my dealer gives me that "deer in the headlights" look.

That's exactly why I'd like to be able to figure out out on my own if it's a miss before I take it in.

I don't believe that it's the Atkinson cycle because it happens on acceleration and from what I've deduced so far, the Atkinson cycle really only kicks in when the engine is under very little or no load.

I think data logging might be the only way to really see what is going on.

Mine does it going 46 MPH in 6th gear, under very light throttle. Feels like bump-bump-bump...like a fish investigating the bait. I can now repeat it and keep it going for quite a while...no code thrown. It almost feels like it is lugging, and not enough throttle position to kick down a gear.

Definitely not the AC. Especially since it is not on.

Yes, I posted a page back. I work at a toyota repair shop (not a dealer) and we have access to TIS. Nothing came up with the very slight miss, but one day it did it much more noticeably than normal on a short drive, the monitor showed only one misfire but it was there. I think it's too slight to really pick up and I'm not sure if the vehicle has to be warm to save them or what the parameters are for picking it up

It could be your CSP sensor starting to crap out on you, if your truck has around 10k miles and build before April. It is a real problem on the earlier '16's.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I get the same thing in 4th 5th and 6th gears...More noticeable with the AC on. Happens under normal/slowish acceleration up to about 1800 RPM. Few people on the messageboard think it's shudder from the torque converter. When I get time, I'm going to get a case # from Toyota for this issue and the dreaded rear diff howl.

If the miss comes when the engine is fully warm in hot operating conditions, then it could be a sensor and it may have some pending codes with no mil light on dash.
But if it's just a stumble like with the a/c on cycling mode accompanied by a surge such as while parking it in drive, it should work itself out as your engine is still in its early learning mode and it will go on making noticeable adjustments until 2k, when much finer adjustments will continue well into 7-8k.

A stumble and surge should work itself out as the mileage piles on. I'm at over 10k and no stumble with a/c on or surging as I had while under 2k.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Yes, Atkinson is the big difference from the old 4.0L let's hope Toyota did it right. Only time will tell, so far so good on my end, loving the gas mileage.

    Cheers!

It's not just misfire feelings for me. Things are getting slightly worse than they are better, at least in this aspect. Still love my truck though. Only 12xx miles

You are a step ahead of me...Not sure of the print out other than what looks like misfires.

But I can definitely feel mine misfire quite often.

Mine is a 17 with 160 miles and I've noticed a very slight stumble at idle. Is pretty rare but while testing the audio and playing around in it the first night I noticed it a couple times. I have a manual and you can see the shifter jiggle ever so slightly when it does it. I've also noticed a lull in power when taking off in 1st at about 2000 rpms or so. It's like the power curve flat lines for a split second instead of linearly going up. It's doesn't always do it but I have noticed it a couple of times. I've had AC on constantly since I got the truck so haven't tested it with AC off. I was thinking it was the Atkinson cycle (the lull anyway). The stumble at idle isn't concerning to me...its very minimal and I've seen that in many cars before.
