Well, I was planning on waiting until my 5k service to get my truck checked out. As of this week, the truck is acting much worse. I can't tell if it's missing badly or slipping/shuddering badly. Whatever it is, it isn't good. I'm going to call Toyota and get a case number and then schedule a visit to my local Toyota dealer. I want to love this truck....I sure hope they can fix this. If not, I think I'll being Tundra shopping.

Anyone have any updates? I hooked up my truck yesterday and somehow it was a lot better. Ran it for about 10 min and only came up with 2 misfires, which is not good still but way better than the 7 in 2 min I had a few weeks ago. Im not saying it is learning its way out of a mis, because that would unusual, more likely a sensor was working better at the time. But maybe

What program/app are you running? I'd love to see if misfiring is what I'm experiencing or if it's something tranny related. It is annoying the crap out of me. I still plan on taking it in soon but right now I'm preparing for this hurricane!

maybe, but I don't know. I doubt they would be that smart though. Maybe the snap on one's but you probably don't want to spend $1k on it. If you have a mechanic buddy with access to something better than just an obd2 reader I would try him

My 2017 has 600 miles on it now, and I've found that the "hesitation / miss / surge" behavior only occurs when I'm cruising at a constant throttle with ECT mode ON. With ECT ON, the upshift to a higher gear occurs around 2200 RPM, and if I am just below the upshift point, around 2000 RPM, the engine seems to buck. I am pretty sure that it is shifting in and out of Atkinson mode. That is the only theory that I have.

If I turn off ECT mode, then the upshift point is around 1400 or 1500 RPM and I don't experience the hesitation / miss / surge behavior. But the acceleration sucks.

When I am accelerating with ECT ON rather than running at a constant throttle speed, then I don't experience any hesitation / miss / surge behavior as the engine climbs through the 2000 RPM range.

This is so annoying that I have to turn off ECT mode when I am cruising on a 35 MPH street, and then turn it back ON when I have want a responsive engine when leaving from a dead stop.

I must say that ECT mode is very responsive during acceleration -- this engine works great when it is pushed with ECT on. However, the transmission shift points in ECT mode and the Atkinson cycle transition points seem to be fighting with each other.

The good part is at 2000 miles I don't feel it any more and only had 2 misfires show up on computer over 10 min last time I checked it (1500miles? ). So it appears it can learn it's way out of it

Agreed. Described almost this exact behavior. Regional Toyota technician said it is a characteristic of the vehicle.

Mine is doing same thing since I got it and I just hit 3,000 miles. I took it in twice already and the first time they did TSB and said resolved...I took it in again around 2,500 and they kept the truck for 2 days trying to diagnose the issue. I told them all the same as you have described, missing @1200-1500, slight incline @50-65mph and no power as I press accelerator. They responded with a "Could not duplicate" and wanted the Toyotech from out of state to look at it (why they held it 2 days) but he never showed. I will bring it up again at the 5K and ask them to re-look at the issue.

I'm having this same issue too. 1500 rpm. going about 35-40mph and give slight throttle pressure to maintain speed up a hill and it missfires. Did you get anywhere with the dealer? I have 2k miles on the truck now and debating to bring it in now or wait till my 5k service.

I never got anywhere with it. At 5k miles now and don't think it happens anymore. Not really sure what the deal was. I should hook it up again to see if there are any misfires that I'm not feeling

The slight surge/hesitation feeling is back after I filled back up with 87 w/ ethanol again.

Much how the transmission tune was not done well, I don't think the ECU tune for 87 was done well either. 91 ethanol free is going back in on the next tank as it got rid of this.

Mine has been doing this forever. Just figured it was "normal for the vehicle". That's what the tech told me
