sup fellas, as some of you know i recently switched to a mac and love it. I currently have leopard but got a notification from apple saying i can upgrade to snow leopard for $30. has anyone used it yet? is it worth it?

another question is whether or not i'd need to reload my machine. is this a whole new OS? (in which case i assume i'd have to re load). Or is this more like a windows service pack upgrade? (meaning i wouldn't have to bakc up my stuff and could just load it)

    any of you chumps know?

If your picked it up after June the price should be $10.00
I like it, running very smooth like a mac should. Gave me back about 8 gigs, next update will take it back though I'm sure.
Just pop the disc in and off you go.

Yea I ordered mine the other day and got the discount price of $13.00 CDN since I only bought my computer in July......

On a side note, I used a dell laptop the other day at work.....I just about ripped it in half cause I was so frustrated with it!

i personally think its worth the 30 bucks for an upgrade. i noticed my macbook pro runs smoother and faster. apps seem to open a little bit quicker. so i guess why not and just upgrade.

Yep, no need to back up. Did anybody else have there computer shut down in the middle of the install and restart on it's own and continue the install?

Mine loaded in about an hour with no problems. Gave me back 14 gigs. As stated above, seems to run smoother and quicker. The new Qicktime is pretty cool. And the wifi signal strength indicator has been helpful. I would recommend it, epecially for $30.

kick ass! thanks guys, i'm gonna get that sucka!

as for quicktime, what i need is an application that sets it on fire and replaces it with media player 10. quick time can suck it. the only complaint i have about apple so far

    hmmmmm...... so get this

i got my computer in may 14. under the $30 option there is one for $10 that says if i got it on or after june 8th its 10 bucks. so i clicked on it just to see what would happen. apparently it is gonna let me check out without checking my purchase date. sounds good but i'm afraid i would get the disc and stick it in and a msg would come up saying its not compatible because of my purchase date. what do you guys think?

see, thats what i was thinking. but unlike pc's, the serial number is in the main info screen and was registered in may. is there any way it can check to see if it was registered before june and if so not install? with pc's you could have a copy of windows but it wouldn't work if your computer didn't qualify. i feel like it would be safer to order the real deal then have to deal with shipping it back and paying shipping costs all over again

i went ahead and ordered the $30 version. i figured it would be worth not having to deal with returning and reording if the $10 version didn't work.

as for quicktime my issues are with controls and its inability to handle video playlists. also, i hate how it needs to import video or audio onto your hd to play it. for example, i have an external hd FULL of video. yes some porn, but also tons of tv shows and movies and stuff like that. if i highlight multiple videos and hit play, it wont read from the external drive, it will import everything onto my mac hd and play from there. its just not as intuitive or smart as media player. in my opinion quicktime (and itunes) is the only thing mac has done wrong, and media player is the only thing pc has done right. its so irritating. as a reslut, for me to watch stuff on my tv, i have to have a dedicated PC based laptop, which i have. i hate it for everything in the world except media which is the only thing its used for now

i use VLC for weird files but its not good for multiple files or playlists. i just wish i could get one of the newer versions of media player on my mac. then i'd be made in the shade

I just installed 10.6 too. I stare at a lot less beach balls now.

I did a fresh install of 10.5 for a week then did a fresh install of 10.6 and its noticeably faster. I run a couple windoze VMs for development so my Mac is getting a workout. Its a little aluminum 13 incher with a 30 inch dell hooked to it. I am using the apple mini display port to DVI-D adapter, which surprisingly works. They rewrote finder using cocoa (for all you NeXT guys out there). Safari is 48% faster and a bunch of stuff runs in 64bit now.

I say upgrade. It's 25 bucks. And there is 1 version.
