I recently purchased a 2014 Tacoma and am trying to decide what camper shell to purchase. My preference is the CabHi, but if getting the slightly taller, sport high will give me enough room to sit up with a platform, I will go that way. Unfortunately, I can not find measurements for these guys installed anywhere.

Basically, what I want to know is: when I build a sleeping platform wheel well high, what will be the distance between the platform and the shell top? Also, I am considering the following shells:

1) SnugTop CabHi: Not so bulky, locks from the inside, will be enough for the majority of what I do.

2) SnugTop SportHi: Locks from the inside, will get this one if it means I can sit upright on my sleeping platform or my dog can stand up on the sleeping platform.

3) Leer: Less expensive, but doesn't lock from the inside.

So, does anyone have the measurements of any of these cabs installed on a second gen Tacoma? Am I missing any key considerations?

Thank you!

Hopefully this will help with your questions:

1. Cab-hi – inside height is 20-5/8”. You need to add the dimension from the top of the plastic rail cap to the wheel well ht (which is also the ht of the sleeping platform you intend to build) to the 20-5/8” for the camper shell, this total would be the clearance dimension you are after – this dimension is at the front and rear, the center would be an additional 1/4”-3/8” because of the roof crown.
2. Sport HiLiner – inside height is 23-1/2”. You need to add the dimension from the top of the plastic rail cap to the wheel well ht (which is also the ht of the sleeping platform you intend to build) to the 23-1/2” for the camper shell, this total would be the clearance dimension you are after – this dimension is at the front and rear, the center would be an additional 1/4”-3/8” because of the roof crown.
