I don’t want to turn this into something yet but just incase (cough, cough Super White)…
I noticed two paint chips on my driver’s side rear door that look suspicious. They’re tiny, about a mm with no dent what so ever. It’s a strange place for a rock chip. I just turned 10k miles and I don’t even have chips on the bumper yet.

Almost looks like a BB gun shot hit it.

Hard to say with no size reference in the second image though.

That’s about the right size but no dent.

Mower flung a rock possibly? I have a few similar chips on my cement tailgate. They haven’t worsened in 2 years. I keep meaning to touch them up.

Both of these are very good chances. I know I have a couple marks on the side of my truck from driving past people mowing ditches.

Looks like time to order a touch up pen. Didn’t think I’d need it so soon.

The OEM touch up pens they sell are pretty good. Unfortunately they work best if the surface is horizontal. But I suppose you could take the door off and lay it flat.

I had quite a few rock chips from the transport truck which I was pretty pissed about. Some were the size of a pencil eraser some smaller.

I had a local paint shop mix me up a small bottle of touch up with clear mixed in and it’s honestly some of the best paint match I’ve ever seen. Right down to the size of the small gold flakes. I used a fluid writer to fill in the chips and then took 3000 grit sandpaper once it dried and leveled it out then white pad and some menzerna 3500 polish and you could not tell there was a chip at all. I’ve been into detailing as a hobby and I’m very hard to impress but the touch up paint that the shop mixed for me blew my mind at the ease of use and how consistently it applied and dried.

the toyota paint pens in comparison suck and you have to apply clear on top which always looks terrible.

The paint on our tacos is super thin and chips easily. My guess is many new vehicles are also, but I was surprised after buying mine used and working to remove scratches from previous owner how thin it is.
