Yeah I skipped all that and went right to the Fox 2.5 hence my feedback earlier.

I was weighing the difference between sending out my Fox to get the smaller bushing installed (for EXT travel) or just buying some King EXT shocks to try out. Thought it over for a sec and said fuck it and ordered the King CO's

Think of replacing my OME w/883 for the Kings 2.5 EXT. Saw this thread so I wanted to see how they’re working for you or @Indyteecee. Have pretty much the same setup, DC V6 4wd, plate bumper, winch, oil/trans skids etc.

Few months later and I still have them on my Tacoma.

Being that you're 4x4, and will run a winch with your bumper, I'd opt for 650lb springs.

I never put the King's on because they too run 600lb springs like the Fox, and instead will go on my 4R.

Truck rides nicely (up front, soaks speed bumps crazy smooth at +30mph) but only rides level when I had weight in the rear.

Here it is with the weight a bedrack and RTT -

Here it is with no weight in the back -

Before the ARB, the front sat just a tad higher than it does above. Best 'level' pic I could find with the stock bumper on -

So your still running the OME but up your springs to 650#, what springs?

I see Kings have the standard 600# and the heavy duty at #700. Do they have an option for 650# too, from factory?

I even thought about running 700# up front but didn’t know if anyone had experience with that spring rate. Being DC V6 4wd is the heaviest of the 1st gen already. With my full armor, winch, and now roof rack I’m probably pushing the 590# springs.

Eh, I never had OME for shocks or coils only their leaf pack.

I have Fox 2.5 up front and Fox 2.0 in the back.

You can ask for 650lb springs as most companies just place the order and the coilovers are shipped directly to you from the manufacturer. That's how my Fox shocks arrived, from Fox themselves as well as my King shocks...from King with a tag of when they were 'built'.

I haven't seen 700lb brought up at all, though I did run into a 3rd Gen 4Runner thread where someone got that spring rate and hated it.

That's a hell of a lot of weight on your rig...surprised you've still got that type of lift unless you preloaded the shit out of your fronts.

Good to know. I think I’ll ask for the 650# springs when the time comes. Unless I’m mistaken, the OME w/590# are set, there are no adjustments. My CV boot angle is almost straight with a diff drop. It might just look like I have a decent lift because my fenders are trimmed. I’ve done many trails and obstacles and so far I am pleased with how the OME setup works. However I’m going through the journey with my truck and want to go to the next stage. I want to try 35s next but I know I’ll need to regear and then tub my wheel well to get the clearance I want for certain obstacles. Eventually I might end up with 37” or 40” and a solid axle or LT, it’s all about the journey. Working my way up the build is a fun and good learning experience.

If you're considering LT at all, I'd just say skip the Fox 2.5 EXT and go right to it.

The Kings EXT are about $1300 for fronts. I could be wrong but LT setup would cost me around $5-6k that’s including the rear I presume? A good solid axle would cost me at least 6k and up. So $1300 doesn’t sound like much when comparing the three options. Plus the fun part is seeing how much I can push the truck with each setup. I know I’ll have to add more money but running 35s with a tub job on a standard coil setup sounds fun :)

I guess I see it as a waste of money since you don't gain too much going from OME to a 2.5 shock aside from a more cush ride off road, and the benefit of being able to rebuild and revalve said shocks.

Aside from that, not a real step up.

It's the reason why I skipped OME and Bilstein 5100s altogether.

You’re probably right. It just feels bettering knowing I can have a heavier spring and if I decide to go with the 35” setup.

I love my kings. The best bit of advice I can give you tho is to make sure you’re getting the right spring weight for how much weight you’re carrying and how much lift you want, because cranking the coilovers up to get more lift makes the truck ride like ass.

What springs weight did you go with and what’s on your Tacoma?
