Sound Deadener Recommendations

I used dynamat on my front doors. Crazy the difference it made. Its like a put new speakers in. Road noise cut down a lot. I plan to do my back doors and roof with it soon

 

Actually, now I understand the whole process from this thread. It hadn't come up on my searches before.

I'm going to swap my noico from 50 to 80mil.

I'll just do the

$80 Noico 80 mil (2 mm) 36 sqft (3.4 sqm) car Sound deadening mat, Butyl Automotive Sound Deadener, Audio Noise Insulation and dampening

80mil noico for now. Later on, I'll also order

NOICO WP 150 mil 36 sqft car Waterproof Insulation Heat and Cool Liner, Closed Cell PE Foam CCF Self-Adhesive Sound Deadening Material (1/6'' Thick Sound Deadener)

this 150mil foam and

$130 Trademark Soundproofing Mass Loaded Vinyl 1lb - MLV Soundproofing for Wall Sound Barrier - Sound Insulation - 4' x 10', Covers 40 sf - Made in USA

this MLV and add that in.

I'll use the 300mil foam/MLV sandwhich where I can then the 150mil/MLV sandwhich on the doors etc where the thicker combo won't fit.

 

I put second skin damplifier in my Tacoma. Bought the CCF from foam factory website and MLV from sound proof cow. Still have leftovers to do my MR-2 Spyder.

Second skin usually runs a black Friday special for 30% off their products. That's when I purchased mine. If you can wait another 8.5 months buy it then.

 

They never miss an occasion to have a sale. I'd be shocked if they didn't do a Memorial Day sale.

Finding SDS on sale - that's a tough one. I did one time though. They were out of CLD tiles & took a nice chunk off a preorder. I'd like to get in on that again.

 

That's what I used on my 2nd Gen. Without a sale, they're just as expensive, if not more than dynamat, a lot of times even with "B" stock.

 

I used Frost king. I bought it at Lowe’s or HD. It’s the stuff used for air conditioning units. It’s been in for three years and works great! A little alcohol to clean the surface, spray glue on the surface and the sticky side of the Frost King and a small paint roller. About $100 and it’s just as good as the expensive stuff!

 

I looked at my receipt. I ended up purchasing 120 sq ft. of damplifier for $276. I figure since I'll use it for two vehicles the price wasn't too terrible.

 

That's better than dynamat extreme pricing, that's for sure. I bet during a sale you could get all the pro versions of that plus mlv and still be under that price.

 

Is one kit sufficient to do an entire double-cab (doors, floor, behind rear seats?)

18 square feet is not enough. Some door kits are 10-12 sqft. for each door. Depends on how much coverage you want. I think just behind the rear seats is 15 sqft by itself.

 

Correct, I used 2 orders of that stuff to do 4 doors and behind rear seats. On the rear doors, I did not cover the entire panel either. Just stuck a piece behind each speaker then did a large square in the center of each door.

 

I've been looking at getting Raamat's package #1 with the deadener and ensolite. How well much of a difference have to noticed using this stuff?

 

It's night and day... err, loud and silent . I've used Dynamat and Pyle in the past and this is my favorite by far.

He has some excellent how-to guides on his site.

 

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I have a 1st gen reg cab I'm looking to install this in. I'm wanting to do at least the inner and outer skins of the doors as well as the back wall. Based your use of this stuff, do you think the Package 1 would probably cover that? Also, what would be the next most beneficial area to do...floors, ceiling, firewall?

 

No problem man. Package 1 will be enough for sure. I'd do inner/outer door skins, back wall and the roof. That's what I did in my 05 access cab and it made a huge difference. If you have leftovers after that, which you might, you could do parts of the floor and firewall; I'd focus on the tunnel section.

 

Cut around the seat mounts.
If you don't, I recommend Re-checking re-torquing your seat bolts after a month or so, they will be loose as seat settle and compress the rubber.

As far as the deadener goes, do you roll it on after sticking it in place like dynamat?

 

Yeah. Stick, press form with fingers then roll it. Raam sent me a roller with my first kit order, and I've been using it for years lol
