Sound Deadening , Vibration Reduction

Installing all new sound system. Spent an anal amount of time researching these 2 issues. Lots of theories out there and there is quite a bit to select from. Around 10 or less I'd say. Cost can be astro. Especially for vib. reduction. Anyway I felt the most comfort in going w/ this guys goodies. I use goodies because most developers stay w/ one thing. Whatever path you choose he has a route and the product for it. Also explains the where and why to it all in a launguage that even I can understand. And most of all, it's sensible. I just got my materials and I'm exited to start installing them so I let you know what opinions I have, short term and long. Another reason I went w/ these materials was cost. Especially on the VR material (CLD tiles). Yoy can get up to 39 of these for only 10 and change for Priority shipping. Shipping was another huge factor. I don't know if he does this w/ every order but he sent me samples of everything.

I forgot to mention I'm testing other materials not specific for sound deadening. For instance those foam tiles the puzzle together (24" squares) and exer. mats like yoga mats. Bed foams are a big no-no. They smell, cruble and hold moisture. One yoga mat I found was 30 bucks which was dual density that covered the whole back wall w/ 24" square piece for the floor left over for the deck. Also going to use spray foam, but the slow drying type in minor areas. Don't know if it might leave an odor especially in high heat. Going to call them and check. The tiles (24" squares) are black and have a diamond plate look and sell for 18 and change at W'mart. (24sq.ft. total)

 

How many tiles did you order for your project and results? I need to get some for my truck.

I recieved 10 (10 x 6). I'm using 1 1/2 to 2 to surround each speaker on the 4 doors. If I use 1 1/2 for each (6) i'll have enough left to do my wifes front on her Taco. That leaves me 1 for seams if I have since there will be a split. Typically sheets come in 12 x 12's. But for the price i'm sure that seam won't be an issue. I did notice the back peels off nice. Remeber I haven't started applying these yet. I will by days end.
If you only need 4 the shipping is 4.95. Anything after up to 39 is 10.95

 

I'm a tad confused, (don't take much). You said in OP that you got 40 for $10.00 and change, then you stated you received 10 tiles. Also I thought the tiles themselves were meant to be placed in the center of larger flat panels, not "around the speakers". Am I missing something?

 

Those were just shipping fees. Up to 4 tiles for 4.95. after that it's 5 to 39 tiles for 10.95. My bill was:
10 tiles at 2.45 each, 24.50
shipping, 10.95
total, 35.45

 

You could use them any way you see fit since they are used for both SD and VR. I personally won't waste them on SD. I am going to put SD behind speakers ( not touching speaker). I'm putting VR between actual door surface and speaker mount surface. Am I making sense? Let me know.

 

OK, got it now. I used some of that butyl rope around the speakers to isolate them. So, what you gonna use for SD?

 

I'm sure this sounds like I'm getting away from recommended, specific materials but after seeing pretty much including samples I've received and the only reason I'm not using them is I feel I've found materials that are efficient w/out losing quality and are affordable. So for the inside of door cavities and back wall I used those 24" floor tiles that interlock using spray adhesive. For the doors I cut them in 3 separate strips. It covered everything but that pipe and 2 dividers. For the face of door I'm going to use the 10 x 6 strips, alum. covered butyl like Dynamat, Hushmat, etc., but only 25% of door around speaker. I did do the 4 doors the same way. When I get it done I'll post pics. I hope this helps.

I'll tell you right now if you're doing anything to try to reduce the sound coming into the interior of your vehicle you're wasting your time by doing anything besides your basic sound deadening. The biggest problem with sound intrusion into the tacoma is the fact that the doors are not sealed properly by weather stripping. Other vehicles have double or even triple sealed doors. Most vehicles have at least 1 layer of unbroken stripping. The tacoma uses pretty much a single broken layer stripping. I have several hundred dollars invested in products from sound deadener showdown. I have zero vibrations but I still get sound intrusion especially from wind noise.

 

Hey thanks for your imput about this. It's overwhelming, trying to decide how to go about it all once you think you have an idea of what to put where and if it is or isn't going to help. Then the cost factor. Anyway I originally was just going to wrap the f.door spkrs. w/ two 10 x6 shts. he sells. Then put something behind spkr. on outer door side. But I thought padding that whole wall couldn't hurt. Don't know if you noticed but I was planing on padding the whole back wall where metal is showing, since iI had to take out the factory blk. plastic to make fitment for Sub. Did you have a similar situation? Thx again.
