Speakers Blown-It's Time!

My front drivers side speaker I'm not hearing much out of, and the passanger is popping. Time to upgrade! I've been waiting for an excuse from day one.

Help me out!

The vehicle: 2005 Double Cab non-JBL system. It has factory 6 disc which I hope to replace this winter.

Here's what I have:
(1) MTX Thunder 6000 10" Sub.
Requires 5 1/8" mounting depth.

(1) Rockford Fostgate Punch amp. 600watts


What I would like is a ********* sub enclosure. Will this work with my sub?

I also plan on buying the front and rear speaker mounts with a set of Alpine 6.5" speakers all around. Looking at these speakers:

Now, on to the stereo... This might have to wait for phase 2, but now is the time to research.

I wouldn't mind throwing around the idea of an in-dash DVD, double din. Which one's work with the factory steering wheel controls?

Same question for a more basic, CD stereo, single din. Which ones work with factory controls?

Any further reconmendations would be great!

I don't normally start out with trying to sell things but......I have all kinds of speakers for sale that are brand new in the box and want them gone. I have Kicker 6x9's and Kicker components that would do nicely for you. Let me know if your interested.

 

get a ipod and call it a day

 

get those alpines and get an alpine or pioneer. I prefer alpine because of the ease of ipod controls. Both deliever excellent sound quality and both are steering wheel control capable and both have IPOD cables. So,it's just which one do you want. Double din - go with the alpine IVA-w200 or 205, pioneer D3 or the 4000. The alpine one is gps capable but you need to buy it as well with the bluetooth. The D3 has GPS and if you get the bundle you get the bluetooth. The 4000 is bluetooth capable, but not gps capable. Now it's up to you.

 

I've had the latest Pioneer Premier and Alpine for single din. In terms of iPod interface, I prefer the Alpine - much faster to get to the song I want.

Pioneer has very logical controls and feels solid. The recent update to the larger multidirection wheel sucks, feels too easy to push and push in the wrong direction.

Alpine X series screens are very beautiful, controls are wonderful. moving through presets is impossible without steering controls. I was worried about giving up the CD player, but feel like the shackles of my oppression have been thrown off - no big case of CD's to mess with, iPod does it all - with artwork!

Both should work fine with steering wheel. Mine does. Note that you will lose some functionality; Mine will move through presets for radio, but the up/down does nothing in ipod mode. You can have it set up the opposite way if you like (skip tracks for ipod and perform tuning in radio), but not have all the features of what you were used to. Big deal, sound is king.

My motto is to buy a seperate GPS. I can hide it or remove it for security, take it with me on a walk, or put it in the rental car. Your double din is stuck.

Your sub will work in the box, but how well is a different matter. You need to match up cubic airspace as best you can. Too much and the speaker slows down, giving you more rolling bass notes and less quick beats. Too small and the speaker is stifled from proper excursion (I think it can cause shortened lifespan, but don't quote me). Note that there's wiggle room, but the closer you get the happier life is.

I would do HU first. If you try the amp, you have to end up pulling the deck extra times, and the factory doesn't have RCA preouts.

 

No need for fancy IPOD hookups, I don't have one.

No need for GPS, have a portable garmin...
