What are your thoughts on speed bleeders? My motive bleeder took a dump today, 10 years old. Since my brake system is vacuum assist is there any tips. My beloved 2002 was the same without abs. Thanks.

Speed bleeders help if you are a one man show.
I don’t know what psi it takes to “open” the speed bleeder.
I have never used them with a pressure bleeder. A pressure bleeder might not have enough pressure to open the check ball in the speed bleeder. But I would think it should?

In short, I don’t run them on my truck.
    Because I have a brother.
And he’s doing just fine pressing the brake pedal for me while I bleed the brakes.

You mean one that doesn't stomp the brake pedal as if it were....a mess of cockroaches? If so, I'm jealous.

Sometimes it's tough being the only one with any semblance of mechanical sense/ inclination.

Do whatcha gotta do to git-r-duuuuuun.

Thank you sir. The motive worked well on my 2002. Haven’t tried it till today on my 15. The rubber hoses crumbled and the nipple to the bottle broke. I may get another.

You aren’t doing it right if you don’t use both feet to press the pedal.
You know you did it right when the pedal hits the firewall.

Nahh, my brother is pretty good with this kind of stuff.

I have had a set on my Wife's Prius for 9 years now and they work great. I fill the caps on the Truck and Car with Fluid Film and they look brand new every time I do a bleed. I am a sick individual and do a brake bleed every year just cause what else am I going to do during the winter.

I equate Speed Bleeders to a Fumoto Valve. There is always going to be the nay sayers. They will have never owned them and will swear they are worthless or too much money for what they are. By myself with only a single wrench and tube can bleed my brakes. I saved money the first time and 7 years later changing the fluid every year I am at what a dealer would have charged me for the first fluid change. Just saying.

What brand and do you use for your truck? So how many pumps do you do? Do you have the the hose submerged in brake fluid or is it not necessary?

I use the Russell(Edelbrock) and they were worth every penny; it's nice not having to go recruit someone to help with what I can do by myself. As far as having the hose submerged...nope. The hose is just there to direct the fluid into a catch container; the speed bleeder is just a check valve for your brake system, really. As far as "how many pumps"...1370 posts and you haven't learned what asking a question with certain terms is going to get you on TW? I'll let the creatives jump in on that one, but I will say that I don't ever expect to get brake bleeding down to such a science where it's a very set amount each time. Just push fluid through the lines and check the catch hose to see the color of the fluid. Fluid that needs to be changed is noticeably darker than champagne colored new fluid.

I use Russell’s that I bought off Amazon. As for pumps I don’t get the “Color Change” because of doing it often but I will suck out the reservoir fill it up to the top. Pump out the back right until I get low. Fill all the way to the top and pump it out with the remaking until I get to the full mark. Usually takes me about 10 minutes. Probably 2 of it is remembering where I put the hose.

I was just looking these up as I am considering between these and a Motive Pressure system.

What I saw is that the correct sizes for the bleeders are:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...oad-with-speed-bleeders.368080/#post-10043425

    Steel:

    SB7100 (Front Disk brakes) M7 x 1.0 x 35.15
    SB1010 (Rear drum brakes) M10 x 1.0 x 34.44

    Stainless Steel:

    SB7100-SS (Front Disk brakes) M7 x 1.0 x 30.22
    SB1010-SS (Rear drum brakes) M10 x 1.0 x 31.35

A cheaper alternative to the Speed Bleeders is the Motion Pro bleeder 08-0143. It accomplishes the same as the speed bleeders, but only one is needed and moved from wheel to wheel.

I have a couple different pressure bleeder kits at work. They're not that expensive. Also makes it an easy 1 man job

You don’t know by chance the part numbers? I looked on their site and they don’t list them for Tacoma.

I noticed that too. Just the older Toyota vehicles.

Here is the best I can do for the Russell Bleeders
You could use the number JimmyH listed to compare them

I'm curious about what "adapter" you used for the MC? I just received a Power Probe BA10 adapter for the small Toyota cap and will mate it with a Motive Power Bleeder. I'll be using this on our 2015 Sport.

I have that adapter. I was going to use the universal adapter that came with my motive only because I didn’t have the connections for the power probe. Ended up not bleeding the brakes after the hoses crumbled. Just refilled the mc.
