    Hey all,

Recently my 2017 Tacoma SR has been having some issues with the speedometer and tachometer. In the 3 years I've had this truck, it has happened a few times (twice a year, maybe) but now it's happening nearly every day.
For some reason, when I accelerate quickly, like getting onto a highway, my speedometer will jump to way above the speed I'm actually going and get stuck. Then, as I decelerate it will read around 15mph over my actual speed. Now, for the first time, my tachometer is reading below expected. I was on a highway going ~60 and my tachometer was reading below 1000rpm and when idling at a light it was reading at 0rpm. The truck feels fine but the numbers are just reading off. The speedometer issue started happening more frequently since I started using my truck to deliver with DoorDash. Now the tachometer issue just started.
If anyone has any ideas as to what this could be and how to fix it, I'd appreciate the input! I've called Toyota and am waiting on a call back to speak with an advisor.

My money is on bad instrument cluster. If it was a short it would probably flatline completely

I would expect it to be covered under warranty, regardless of mileage. Kind of like seatbelts.

Had a 17 sr and it did the same thing. The dealer first said it wasn’t a problem until I videoed it on several different occasions. They ended up keeping my truck for 3 weeks and gave me a rental car. Replaced the cluster.

That’s a well known problem on the SR clusters.

It was a bad instrument cluster like everyone thought. And it was covered under warranty. Thanks for all the help!

I was thinking about this thread this morning, ever since I got my 2019 new last year I wasn’t sure if it was my eyes or the speedo but sometimes it’ll be delayed going faster or slower and it will jump a few miles an hour. It’s so minor and infrequent but I do notice it randomly. Now that I’m conscious of it I notice it more. I’m wondering if mine is bad too. I’ll try my scanner and see if I can rapidly sweep the gauges and record it. I’m a tech and hate having my cars touched but if it’s gonna go bad eventually and has a warranty then why not.

I don’t even let them do my free oil changes.

Just started having this issue in my 2017 SR. Just out of warranty. Anyone do this fix themselves and if so do you have the instrument cluster part number?

I’m sure you can find a used one on car-part.com. I don’t have this problem but if I did I would like to upgrade to a higher trim cluster.
