Squeeking Brakes!!

    I've been having problems the past 2 weeks with my brakes squeeking. Here is the catch: They only do it when I'm in reverse!! It's unbelievably frustrating. Does anyone know what might cause this?

    When I bought new tires so about a month ago. They just started squeeking 2 weeks ago, so I dont think it was the brake cleaner I used. Plus its only in reverse. It doesnt make sense.

    It may just be the rears self adjusting. From what I understand, they will do that when you break in reverse. :notsure:

    I doubt since you have a 2nd Gen the rear brakes have been changed. Besides, only rear drums self adjust and it should only ratchet just a few times.

    I bet there is no brake pad grease between the back of the pads and the vibration plates.

    His truck has rear drums. I guess it would be benificial I he could give us an idea where the squeak is eminating from.

    I'm pretty sure its not the brakes. I just had them apart and cleaned them at a shop probably a month ago. Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to look into the bearing thing.

    Man if you cleaned them and didn't use any "brake quiet" lube between your pad and vibrator pad it will squeak every time. I would do that before tearing into a wheel bearing ordeal.

    Eight out of 10 times it's the last thing we messed with. Not trying to call you out, just hate for it to be a simple and cheap fixed being overlooked.

    No. You definitely should clean but should apply that "brake quiet" stuff to the back of the pads backing plate and then "glue" the thin, slotted Anti-squeal shims to it. If you don't, they'll squeak every time.
