I just bought a 2014 Tacoma Prerunner 4cyl auto last week and I've notice some strange things with how it shifts.

If I'm babying the throttle and accelerating slowly everything is smooth and it will shift into high gear no problem, typically I'm at just under 2000 rpm on the TAC at 60 mph in this circumstance.

Now, if I'm merging and have to give it some gas to get up to speed it will never shift into high gear. In these instances I'll be at just under 3000 rpm at 60 mph. Once I'm up to speed at 70mph the TAC will be right at 3000 rpm.

Even if I let off the throttle at speed it will not shift into high gear, I have to slow down and let it down shift then baby it back up to speed.

This is my first Tacoma, just wondering if this is the way the transmission is supposed to function or do I have a problem?

    Thanks in advance.

You need to take it to the dealer and have it checked out. Something is not right.
