I'm looking to order the crossmember that was cut during an installation of a drop bracket lift and wanted to tap into some of your experience before I pull the trigger. I bought the truck with the lift already installed and have since decided that 6 inches is way too much for me. I already have my new leaf pack and 881 coils ordered but to make it easy on the fab shop I want to get them a fresh crossmember to work with while reverting back to stock. Is the part in this link the appropriate one to replace the cut crossmember?

Advice and insight is much appreciated. Thanks guys.

First, I'd like to contragulate you on getting rid of that 6" lift.

That appears to be it, but I wonder if a fab shop could build you something for cheaper.

That, or head to a wrecking yard with a battery powered saw and hack one off an existing truck.

That looks like a rear cross member. See how it says "Diagram may not be specific to your vehicle"?

This is what I found for your model year:

    https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota....0YWNvbWEmeT0yMDAzJnQ9YmFzZSZlPTMtNGwtdjYtZ2Fz

This page has the model-specific diagram that shows the part number you cited as a rear cross member:

    https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota....e-and-components-scat/?part_number=5120204010

U-Pulls are great for frame chassis/frame parts. Bring in a cordless recip with a bi-metal blade and take the cross member for less than $100.That way, there's no question as to whether or not it's the right one AND you can cut a closer to the frame to get a margin f error for your repair. I'd anticipate that because of the added torsional stress from that lift, it won't drop straight in anymore and require more fine tuning. A reputable welder would likely do the work for around $200. All said and done, you get the factory crossmember installed for less than the Toyota price.

Fab shop could most likely make it cheaper, give them a ring and see what they say

Well, I started out with a guy who was just gonna weld his way through it but the quote he gave me was for a bunch of rough country stuff. I saved up for a few months and got OME stuff and took it back but the guy had retired and the owner of the shop basically acted like he didnt want to deal with it. His loss, I've got a lot saved up to get this right. So theres a few shops I've called to get a ballpark estimate and all they ever say is just bring it by. Thing is, i rarely have time and the truck is on wore out components that dont add up to a great ride so im not exactly trying to road trip the thing every weekend just for them to " take a look." Im trying to get as many ducks in a single row as I can before I take off to Nashville to see a shop Ive been referred to. I dont know that Id know how to remove the section needed if I went to a yard tbh. Right now time is more rare than money and as far into this truck as I already am I want it to be as legit and close to stock as I can. This has been many many months of hard work in the making. Ill have this thing right one day.

Damn, wish I could do the work for someone that appreciative of and dedicated to having it done right. A good independent Toyota shop would treat you right. Gotta be some around

I am sorry I would say the same thing Bring it to me and let me see it.

It is impossible to give any type of estimate without seeing the vehicle unless you make it so high to cover all possible problems

Then there is also time and materials you pay shop rate and materials till it is finished

Have you offered to pay them there Road rate per hour to come check it out offered to pay at all??

Yeah that’s completely understandable. I was just trying to see if I need to gather up $1 or $1 million dollars lol. I have literally nothing to go on except the comments in this thread. Part of lining my ducks up is to know how much to bring bc there’s a long list after this to keep putting into the truck. I want to get Steelers and new tires after I visit the CVs and joints up front. It’s tricky though bc my 265.75.16 might not fit well once I come down from the 6. There are many parts to the equation.

Which front crossmember, is it one that unbolts, or is it one that was cut off?

@Sperrunner has some chunks of frame that might be of use.

31.6 in tires should fit fine on your truck. may need to hit fender walls a bit in some spots or :sawzall:, but yeah its gonna ride 100x better dropping that lift. Couldn't imagine the center of gravity lol

It’s the welded member that needs mending. The ride isn’t even that bad surprisingly considering it’s got no anti sway bar the leafs are shot and it’s way too tall. But at 70 it’s no Cadillac hence the reason I’m trying to limit the travel time I. It until it’s all sorted.

I’m hoping to avoid smashing or cutting. My goal is to end up with a clean ass grandpa truck that is still capable but largely stock.

Wouldn't be easier/cheaper to just start out with a grandpa truck and not try to turn a broverlander truck into grandpa truck? Not questioning what you want to do, just making sure you've considered that as well

I thought prerunners and 4x4's came with 31 inch tires stock? I have 5 lug so I can't even touch 31's till I lift. That's the only concern I'd have if I were you is if you are 5 lug

Yes sir. Hindsight is 20/20. When I bought it I didn’t know crap about these trucks. I basically paid extra because it already had this stuff on it and have since decided I want it all different lol. It’s only got 144k miles, sweet frame,it’s black, 4door, rear locker, all the things I want. I just have this suspension stuff between me and my dream truck. I’ve already taken the hit on the buy. This is me doubling down because I don’t think I’d get my money back and I don’t really want to search out another one of these trucks. All the ones around here are 7-9k for 250+k miles. I’ve not seen another black double cab since I’ve bought this one. I’m a simple man. All my stuff is set up for this truck I just want to work my way through it. It’s a good truck. Having said all that. You’re right. I wish I had known better before I got it and got a stock Tacoma to begin with.

Yeah and my current bumper is aftermarket so there’s plenty of room there but I worry about the backspacing of these wheels. Standing next to the truck it looks like it should go and the only area that is a maybe is the back of the front fender by the door at full turn.
