Substance to add TEXTURE

Do you guys have any advice on what or how to add texture to paint. I am painting some plastic with bed liner and wanted to add texture to the paint mixture. I was thinkin of some metal shards/grain sized pieces. Maybe sand. ....I dont know how that sounds. Thanks guys

 

I've used silica sand added to concrete sealer to add a grit to the surface

 

Rubber particles are what most bedliner has. This site tells you about how they get texture.

Yeah, I guess that will be my only/quick option. I did not find anything else on my scavenger hunt. I wonder if the sand will break down the petroleum in the Rustoleum paint though. I guess we will see tomorrow

 

I tested out the sand method but it began to clump before I could even roll the liner on. I had some sand paper and grinded the grit off and used that. Not bad at all
