    Now the question is do I use full synthetic in my motor? I’m getting the oil pump, water pump (which has nothing to do with this) and crankshaft seal replaced next weekend. So should I switch to full synthetic since seals and gaskets will all be new? Or do my rear main also and then switch to full synthetic?

    The truck is 23 years old and conventional oils are better than they used to be. Synthetic is good for extended oil change intervals, so if you don’t take advantage of this, then you need to decide if you will ever see the benefits of synthetic given the extra cost. It’s your money...

    FWIW, I use mobile 1 0w-40, which is about $25 for 5 quarts at Walmart, along with an oversized fram ultra filter. I change my oil twice a year, so I don’t really care if it costs me an extra $10 per year. Amsoil is a bit more expensive, and I’m not willing to pay that much.

    so let’s say I use valvoline conventional 75w90. Can I use that in transmission, t case, front and rear diff?

    You should refer to your owners manual specifications for some guidance as well. My truck is a 2001 and I just took these pictures for you and I would guess with your truck a little older and it’s probably the same? I just did what you’re about to do and the red line MT 90 in my transmission has been phenomenal.

    you will notice on the second page different recommendations for your rear differential based on temperature ...... as in the climate where you live.

    I've run Redline for years,

    It definitely makes the gears smoother shifting like a stick of butter,

    Just switched to mobile one on the motor 5 months ago,

    No new leaks and running great


    Strange thing tho the 1st oil change that added the mobile 1 the engine burned 1 1/2 quarts of oil between changes,

    2nd oil change going in for my 3rd oil change zero oil is being used now.

    I was too but you can go back if there is a leak.

    I just did my valve covers and timings belt all seals there were replaced and when my clutch was fixed I had the remaining seal replaced

    So for me most my seals have been replaced

    yeah next weekend I’m getting my oil pump changed and my crankshaft seal replaced. Should I do my rear main too?
    Also if it started to leak wouldn’t it continue to leak no matter what oil I used?

    The rear main seal is in-between trans and engine tho,

    Yes if you can,

    Yes you can go back to regular oil and will stop.leaking,

    Synthetic oils molecules are much small then Dino oil

    even in the motor you can go back from full synthetic if there is a leak when you switch?

    Okay so I’m going to replace the tranny, t case and diffs. What should I use? I’m a perferred customer with amsoil and can get oil on there but it’s all synthetic. What about these?
